Can you imagine to live a life, where shopping is one of the most important things?
The book follows Becky Bloomwood, the main character in Mini Shopaholic, through her adventures in shopping and life. She tries to manage family, job and her big passion, the shopping simultaneously. For her, a life without shopping is unimaginable.
Mini-Shopaholic is a novel written by the UK author Sophie Kinsella, who also writes under her real name Madeleine Wickham. Mini-Shopaholic is the sixth book of a series of novels. It was published in 2010 for the first time.
Becky and Luke Brandon are married and have a happy life with her two-year-old daughter, Minnie. But Minnie is very lively and headstrong. Minnie shares her mother's passion for shopping right now. No shopping center is safe from them. She has a preference for branded products, and if she wants something and doesn't get it, the young mother Becky often gets to her limits with Minnie. Becky's husband Luke is very anxious to have done something wrong in the education of his daughter and curtly hires a nanny. She should review the problem and should tell Luke and Becky, how they can improve the difficult situation.
But on top of everything else, Luke's beloved stepmother has died, Becky's job is in danger and a financial crisis breaks out. And no one can escape - not even Becky. Willy-nilly, she has to reduce the money spending for shopping. But she has to fight with this all the time and it's very difficult for her not to go in any shop, because for Becky, shopping is a fulfilling life.
To cheer everyone up, Becky decides to throw a surprise birthday party on a budget but then things become really complicated, because the world faces a financial crisis. She must understand that this Party cannot take place without good ideas and necessary willpower. Therefore, she's dependent on her family - her mum, her dad, her sister, her friend and Luke's secretary.
In the book the author takes us with refreshing humor and wit in the world of Becky. She has a very unique perspective on things in life which sometimes bring one to think. Becky tries to master her life in a loving, naïve, clumsy and awkward way. But she must learn to deal with different situations that sometimes overwhelmed her. Becky has a very understanding, lovable character and she has a very good knowledge of human nature. She knows exactly, how she can archive her aim in spite of the greatest problems.
First, I wasn't sure whether this book is the right one for me. But soon I couldn't stop reading it. I was very impressed by the story and in what manner it is told. I enjoyed reading the book and at no time, it was uninteresting or boring. The minor characters are sensitively and accurately described, so that one can easily imagine them metaphorically. They perfect the story and I smiled about many dialogues and behaviors. I can recommend this book to anyone who likes to read comedies and maybe a little bit recognizes itself in Becky. Fast, I could put myself in the main character Becky. I was surprised that the book conveys an important message in life - the message to fight. The author shows that it spite of many downs in life, it's worth to fight. No matter how many times you fall, you have to get up again and again. Becky is the embodiment of this fight. She lives a very normal family life and it was very interesting to see how she deals with problems. Often she was desperate and did not continue, but somehow she always has finally found a solution. Therefore, I give this book five points and I'm very excited to see how it goes on with the chaotic Becky.
