If your success relies upon on a website in any way, this
book is a MUST READ.

Million Dollar Websites is the book you read before initiating the creative and
technical aspects of the website process.

Whether you have a million dollar budget, building your own,
or somewhere in between, Million Dollar Websites is a non-technical guide that reveals
best practices of the web elite to help you get it right - the first time.

It is Time to Update the Definition of a Website

The website has historically been viewed as a technical
fete, connecting pages and links. Author Rebecca Murtagh believes it is time to
update the definition of the website to reflect the vital role it plays for
businesses and brands in today's digital, social landscape.

The Website is NOT a Project.

Despite good intentions, millions of websites emerge from
the fatally-flawed gauntlet of project-dom unable to deliver results.  Rather than a project, with a beginning and an
end; the website must be a dynamic extension of the brand, able to adapt and
respond to the competitive landscape, visitor expectations and business goals.

The Website is a Business Asset.

As the ultimate destination for a business or brand, the
website should support goals, deliver value, promote brand, interaction and conversion;
one visitor at a time. It is imperative that the business take ownership of the
website as the strategic asset it can, and should, be.

The High-Performance Website Never Begins With Design

A new website or re-design should never begin with design. Design
is about solving problems. Designers, programmers, content writers, programmers
and SEO's expect important decisions to be made before entering into the
creative and mechanical execution of the website. This book walks you through
the steps needed to be able articulate the information needed to enable your
web team to deliver the optimum solution on time, on budget - making
everyone a winner.

Planning a new website or website redesign?

* Define and justify resources required to facilitate creation, optimization
and ongoing management of the website, as a business asset.

* Gain unprecedented insight to best practices used by the

* Communicate effectively with in-house, and external resources, without having

* Build a better website, on ANY budget.

* The role of the C-Suite and stakeholders.

* Step-by-step guide to promoting brand, clicks and conversion to create
customers for life.

and tips.

* How to choose the right website format, platform and team.

* How to define requirements and/or RFP to enable true "apples-to-apples" proposal

* Save time, money and stress - use tools to eliminate 'unknowns'
that typically impact timeline and budget.

Today's competitive digital landscape demands speed. There is no time to
experiment or learn as you go. This book should be required reading for the
C-level executive, business owner, webmaster, entrepreneur, designer,
programmer, SEO, marketer, PR, sales, customer service professional, manager or
student whose career is in any way connected to the creation, or performance,
of the website.

Million Dollar Websites will forever change the way you look at the website -
any website.

doing its job, you are sure to find invaluable nuggets of wisdom that will empower
you to approach the website with the authority and confidence required to
create a high-performing, quality website capable of delivering results today,

5.0 von 5 Sternen Awesome guide for business owners 18. September 2013
Von Adam Proehl - Veröffentlicht auf
If you're either a business owner, a marketer getting into the digital space, or a student, then this book should be a valuable resource for you. It works well both as a cover to cover read and a handy reference guide. I've been in this business for 15 years so this stuff isn't scary to me at all (although, I admit - I learned a few things from reading this book), but it's really easy for this subject matter to be over the head of a reasonably smart and business savvy person.

Ms. Murtagh draws from her experience, stays very focused on outlining practical advice (that you can actually use), and doesn't over hype the subject matter. Many books written about building a successful website and online presence leave you feeling like you just walked out of a pyramid scheme pitch, but this one just sticks with being useful.

The content of the book is broken out into very digestible chunks and as a busy person I appreciate that. If you've just read it and need to go back and reference something quick, the table of contents is very detailed and will lead you right back to what you need to see. If you "know enough to be dangerous" when it comes to building and marketing websites, this book can help you fill in some gaps.

Overall great value and a very small investment to make when it comes to building your online presence.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Great Resource for Business Owners/Marketers Who Want to Understand The Online World 21. Mai 2013
Von Elmer Boutin - Veröffentlicht auf
Since the dawn of (Internet) time, it seemed like the secrets for successful website strategy have been kept by the so-called "Web Elite." While most business owners, especially those owning small- or medium-sized businesses, are too busy to get into the nuts and bolts of creating and maintaining a successful website, it is important that they comprehend key pieces of the puzzle so they can make informed decisions about their online strategies and to help them choose a partner agency to assist them in making the online portion of their business successful. For far too long now, a large number of charlatans and incompetents have taken advantage of business owner ignorance and created terrible and wholly unsuccessful websites; and, have made a lot of money doing so.

I've written about some of those clients with whom I consulted who had been taken advantage of in an effort to help others learn to make better decisions about their businesses. I have long believed that an educated client is a better client, and have consulted with many business owners to help them be more educated.

Thankfully, I'm not the only one who feels that way. This is demonstrated by some books recently penned by some of the "Web Elite" which share the secrets of optimizing websites for conversions, measuring for success and promoting businesses via social media. The latest, and quite possibly the best so far, of these books is "Million Dollar Websites" by Rebecca Murtagh. The subtitle of the book spells it all out:

"Build a better website using best practices of the web elite in e-business, design, SEO, usability, social media and conversion."

And that's exactly what the book delivers. Instead of focusing a lot of detail in one aspect of web marketing, it takes the reader through each of those 6 main areas and breaks down the important concepts, ideas, and best practices which lead to a successful online presence.

Of course, each of those 6 areas are specialties in themselves. Rebecca doesn't teach the reader *everything* about those topics, though. That would make for quite a large tome, indeed. Instead, she covers the main points in enough depth to help business owners make informed decisions about website strategy and to know if the person or agency they've partnered with is helping or hindering their online efforts.

To help cope with the ever-changing landscape of online efforts, Rebecca has also set up an online community to compliment the book at This site, combined with groups on Google+ and LinkedIn to help readers keep up with the changes that are ever-happening.

The person who can benefit the most from reading this book is the SMB owner or the marketing leadership of a larger company. The book will especially benefit those who have little to no experience in working online and wish to understand how a website works in the "big picture." The information inside will give the reader enough knowledge to work out the basics of a web marketing strategy that will compliment offline efforts and also help identify experts with whom to partner in order to bring that strategy to success.

This book would also benefit those online experts who want to help their clients understand how a successful website works, and why they make certain recommendations over others. By helping to educate your clients, you can help build trust and rapport to make your collaboration even more successful.

All in all, I found this book to be an excellent resource. Even though I'm into web work every day, I picked up some new hints and tips to help me help my clients.

"Million Dollar Websites" by Rebecca Murtagh - an excellent resource for business owners and marketing managers, as well as a great book for web marketing consultants to share with their clients to help promote teamwork.

Disclaimer: Even though I received a copy of this book at no cost to me, this is my honest opinion of the work.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Great book that focuses on what should be a core part of online strategy - the website 15. August 2013
Von R. Garner - Veröffentlicht auf
Rebecca has written a fantastic book on what is one of the most critical, but neglected aspects of strategy. With so much focus on social, SEO, media, etc. many marketers don't pay as much attention to the website itself, when in fact it should be the center of the digital marketing universe. Rebecca covers all important marketing aspects of the website, and shows how other elements like SEO, social, content, etc. play into the overall mix. The book is very well written, and the layout is very clean. Overall, I highly recommend it to anyone who is serious about holistic digital marketing strategy.
