Since his father died, Charlie Bone has lived with his mother and her mother, in the house of his other grandmother, Grandma Bone. Looking at a picture of a couple with a baby and a cat, he suddenly discovers he can hear their voices. Although he tries to hide his new gift, Grandma Bone's scary sisters soon find out, and determine to send him to Bloor's Academy. Mr Onimous appears, and tell Charlie he must find the baby from the photograph, lost inside Bloor's. The mystery deepens when Charlie tries to return the picture to its rightful owner, a bookseller who gives him a heavy box, saying only that it was once swapped for a child. Charlie quickly finds life at Bloor's pretty tough, with its strict rules and the malevolent head boy, Manfred, set against him. He meets someone else with a gift, Gabriel Silk, who can pick up people's feeling from their clothes. Charlie asks about his father's tie, and Gabriel surprises him by saying his father is lost, not dead. Mr Onimous' cats have been involved in a mysterious fire at the school, and more frightening than that, Manfred's sinister gift is to be able to hypnotise people. Exploring at the weekend with new friends Olivia and Billy, Charlie overhears a conversation between Dr Bloor and Manfred. They discover the cats are eight hundred years old, and that Bloor and Manfred are keeping a girl under hypnosis. Charlie realises the girl from the photograph must be Emilia Moon and manages to awaken her using the box. The hypnotism cannot be proved to the authorities and the children will have to return next term, once more under the power of Dr Bloor.

A children's book but also suitable for grown-ups! I accidentally stumbled over the first book and couldn't put it down. A little bit of Harry Potter but with lots of magic of its own. You get caught between were-wolf children, flying children and other endowed children (and adults!) who can do astounding things - the best thing is, that they keep yout imagination up and running from the first to the last page!! Read it and you know what I mean!

When I first saw the book, I thought it`s just a book for children, but my friend had already read it, so I decided to read it, either. And I must say, I was really surprised! Who likes Harry Potter will also like Charlie Bone and read his adventures! It`s a really good book for fantasyfans!

Ich bin nur durch Zufall auf dieses Buch gestoßen und oh mein Gott ich liebe es. Das ist Band 1 von insgesamt 8 Bändern. Die Hauptperson der Bücher ist....Charlie Bone. Er ist ein normaler Junge der mit seiner Mutter Amy, seinen zwei Omas Maisie und Grizelda und seinem Onkel Paton zusammen lebt, sein Vater Lyell ist schon lange Tod. Eines Tages jedoch hört er plötzlich Stimmen aus einem Foto und plötzlich ändert sich alles für ihn!!
Viele vergleichen Charlie Bone ja immer mit Harry Potter, aber bei sind so verschieden und auch die Handlung der Bücher ist so verschieden. Charlie hat gleich zum Anfang eine Familie die für ihn da ist, wenn man Grizelda und ihre schrecklichen Schwestern ausschließt, und seinen besten Freund Benjamin und dessen Hund Runner Bean.
Auch Mr Onimous und seine drei Katzen sind so toll. Und dann gibt es ja noch die Bösen, dazu gehören Manfred Bloor, seine ganze Familie und Freunde und natürlich Grizelda und ihre schrecklichen Schwestern. Dann gibt es noch Fidelio, Olivia, Gabriel, Asa, Billy, Lysander und noch viele andere, aber da müsst ihr selber heraus finden auf welcher Seite sie stehen.
Fazit: Das Buch ist super spannend, besitzt eine Menge Geheimnisse und es wird einem nie langweilig. Es liest sich super flüssig, ist leicht verständlich und die Handlung und die Figuren harmonieren super miteinander. Auch gut fand ich die Idee das nur wenige Schüler an der Academy Kräfte besitzen, jeder kann was ganz spezielles, und die Anderen da sind weil sie entweder super schlau sind oder das nötige Kleingeld haben. Band 2 kann kommen!!
