From Booklist

Though very slick in appearance and presentation, this book is actually a history of black men in America, their style variation and self-expression in a nation that has offered few venues for such. The popularity of black male sports and entertainment figures has brought attention to the way they dress. Yet, we've seldom seen writers of color reflect on the topics of fashion and race. This book reveals the substantial influence of black men on the fashion industry, if for no other reason than the rebel role that has so often been assigned to black men who couldn't find acceptance in the culture, e.g., the contributions the hip-hop style on fashion as well as music. The book includes interviews with or essays by several prominent black men, including Cornel West, Bryant Gumbel, Ed Bradley, Jesse Jackson, Samuel L. Jackson and LL Cool J. Readers interested in U.S. fashion history and the interplay with race and politics will enjoy this book. Vernon Ford

Der Verlag über das Buch

A first time celebration of an American style legacy!
I write this upon recieving the wonderful news that my book has just been placed on the LA Times Bestseller list! I am so proud to be able to share with world what took me nearly three years to write and informative journey back 100 years through the many faces of Black male style in America. From 1900 to the Zoot suit to baggy jeans and fat laces, I've collected over 300 photos (both original and archival) that celebrate OUR style. There are also tons of easy-to-follow expert style tips for any man that wants to bring out the best in his wardrobe.

To be able to work with the ever-stylish Qunicy Jones was a blessing like no other. You'll find tips and first hand style stories from, who I call, the 25 MOST STYLISH BLACK MEN alive today. From Sam Jackson to Maxwell and Sean "Puffy" Combs to Gregory Hines, I had the experience of a lifetime sharing stories, holding monumental photo sessions and getting to the heart of what makes their style inspire the world!

As the author, my hope is that this book will bring to mind a "man of style" in your life and take you back to a style era which brings you joy! Take a long look back at what men of color have created and also see how to keep it going in your own closets (or maybe your husband or boyfriends). This is clearly the book that I've always wanted on my own coffee table and as a gift to give to my very own friends and stylish family. I am so happy to know that it is finally here to experience.

Enjoy in style!
Lloyd Bosto
