After the worldwide success of Born & Raised (2006), the now internationally renowned Berlin-born soul singer is back with her latest album Maureen . Initially released in German,
Maureen is now available in English; the album takes its title from Joy s middle name and is a fascinating collection of 13 songs which are at once direct, unpretentious and romantic. Above all, it is deeply personal album, offering a skilful blend of all the elements that made Joy s previous two albums ( Mamani and Born & Raised ) so unique: clear, direct and yet complex lyrics which strike the balance between lyricism and effortlessness, and outstanding production which mixes modern soul, powerful funk and impressive hip-hop beats. A large amount of the music originates from American beat-makers and producers who Joy collaborated with on her last album, such as drummer and Jill Scott producer Steve McKie, Bilal bass guitarist Tony Whitfield and Jazmine Sullivan songwriter Anthony Bell, while the other part was done in Berlin by famed producer team KAHEDI (Max Herre, Samon Kawamura, Roberto Di Gioia). The majority of the album's compositions were then further enhanced by Larry Gold (Philly Soul & Salsoul Orchestra legend, aka Don Cello ) and his string arrangements.
