4.0 von 5 Sternen A Match Made in Texas is a wonderful collection of novellas! 6. Februar 2014
Von Melanie - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition
A Match Made in Texas is a wonderful collection of novellas! I loved the role "The Matchmaker" played in the first three stories and how she got her own story in the last one!

**A Cowboy Unmatched by Karen Witemeyer**

I started A Cowboy Unmatched with such eagerness! After reading Karen Witermeyer's previous two "Archer" novels, I could hardly wait to read Neill's story and... it was even better than I had hoped!!

I absolutely loved Neill in this book. It was so sweet how he went above and beyond the actions expected and helped Clara in so many ways. I also really liked the new character, Clara. Her reactions to certain things that happened showcased what a strong woman she was.

I think this is the end to the "Archer" stories, which made it a bittersweet read. I loved getting to know these brothers and I'd love to read more stories with them, should Karen decide to write more "Archer" books; but, if not, this was a great way to end it!

**An Unforeseen Match by Regina Jennings**

An Unforeseen Match was another great novella! I've previously read one of Regina Jennings' full-length novels and enjoyed it, so I was pretty sure I'd like this story - and I did! :)

I loved how a couple of the things from the previous novella were incorporated into the story (for instance, how the barn was patched in places with mud, which Clara from A Cowboy Unmatched had done).

I really liked the characters and definitely felt for Grace and the struggles she endured by being blind. I loved the way Clayton helped Grace as she made adjustments in her life. Great read!

**No Match For Love by Carol Cox**

In my opinion, No Match for Love wasn't as good as the first two novellas. The villain seemed obvious to me, the romance felt like it moved way too quickly and was unbelievable, and there were some things towards the end that didn't feel right to me.

I did like the characters and how Lucy had to learn how to do even the most simple tasks (like making tea). It was fun to read Martha's reaction to that incident.

I liked No Match for Love, but didn't love it. I've previously read Carol Cox's book, Love in Disguise, which I really liked.

**Meeting Her Match by Mary Connealy**

Meeting Her Match was a good conclusion to A Match Made In Texas! I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did, so I was glad to find that it was a really enjoyable and funny read.

Meeting Her Match was the shortest of the four novellas (it was only a little over 70 pages), but there were still some pretty hilarious scenes and "how dare he do that" moments. There were some things that bugged me about this story (like how the father had a complete change of character without any reason being given and when the story repeated some things needlessly, in addition to some other things), but all in all I really enjoyed this novella.

**Collection as a whole**

Overall, A Match Made In Texas was a very enjoyable read! My favorite novella was A Cowboy Unmatched, then An Unforeseen Match, but the other two were also's just some things about them I didn't care for all that much. I definitely recommend this novella collection, though, as it is really good! If you enjoy historical romance, I think you'll like it.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A Great Collection!!! 26. Dezember 2013
Von Laura Pol - Veröffentlicht auf
I absolutely loved A Cowboy Unmatched by Karen Witemeyer! It was so good and definitely had me rooting for Neill through all his trials! Despite that the romance was so short, Karen did a great job in having real love blossom to it's fullest! I didn't feel it was rushed or was too fake to really happen! I also loved coming back to the Archers and hearing Neil's story! They were such a fun family with some rough edges! Going to miss them!

Regina Jennings wrote the very interesting story An Unforseen Match! I thought was intriguing how she tackled this one, but to say the least she did an amazing job! I was surprised how much I loved Grace and Clayton's romance as well as how unique their pasts would untie them together! Plus they both had a hard-headed streak that made me giggle at times! An Unforeseen Match is definitely the perfect title for this one!

I really enjoyed the mystery part of No Match for Love by Carol Cox! It reminded me of old episodes of Scooby Doo with a "phantom" and "spooky" noises then to find out at the end why someone was trying to scare the gang in the first place! The only difference here is that Lucy is the one who is hired! She was so awesome in standing up to her fears and being a willing student to learn a new way of life! I also really enjoyed Aunt Maratha's character! She was a hoot!

I also absolutely loved Mary Connealy's Meeting Her Match! It was so unique and interesting with an untypical hero! He was so easy to relate too, especially with his blushing! Plus I loved the overall plot of this one and the new insight that the main character Hannah shares about Leah from the Bible!

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this novel so much and loved each of the novellas for different reasons! I didn't feel they were so similar that I wanted to stop reading since they were all so diverse! I also didn't feel that the romance was unrealistic even though each story wasn't that long. The best thing about this group of romance stories however is the different Biblical messages that each author wove into the character's lives! Definitely a must read if you love Christian romance!

I give this novel a 5 out of 5 stars!

I received this novel for free in exchange for an honest review! All opinions are my own and I was not required to write a positive review! (Thank you so much Regina Jennings!)

5.0 von 5 Sternen Texan matchmaking from stealth to 12-guage 22. Dezember 2013
Von Harold Wolf - Veröffentlicht auf
In Dry Gulch, TX, a town near nothing but a tumbleweed, a do-gooder keeps panning out acts of kindness for others in need, resulting in romantic nuggets. Every two nuggets buy a wedding ring. Expect Bible-toting, praying cowboys in this here neck of Texas. "Preaching" restricted to wedding ceremonies.
After finishing reading these 4 Texan novellas, I were hankerin' to take my own gal in a stagecoach to Dry Gulch for a second honeymoon.
Fun romance, historical (sometimes hysterical) cowboy style.
All stories begin in 1893. Spur for a fast romantic reading ride.

Neil Archer dreams of returning to a family ranch deserted 2 years earlier. First he had something to prove. Very pregnant Widow Danvers' roof leaked. Work to be had. The "shack" needed more than shingles. Was that what Neill was lured there for? The shotgun introduction could lead to anything. A secret someone caused 2 lives to meet head-to-head. Just how a kiss works.

Grace O'Malley, newly visually handicapped; no, blind & without her teaching position, gets moved into the old Clara Danvers house (novella #1). Could she snag a husband with an advertisement during next month's land run? Cowboy Clayton yearns for some of that land, but a man can't race with a dead horse. Dern the luck. Clayton answers the ad posted in the Irish lass's behalf. A handyman's pay might buy a fast mare.

Lucy's sewing circle prays for her plight just prior to Pastor delivering a secret sealed envelope with an offer. An answer? To find out, she heads to the Andrew Simms' ranch as companion to his aged aunt. The delusions of her charge are preferable to repetitive proposals of repulsive Walter in Dry Gulch. The ranch welcome didn't reflect such. Next, ranch life gets crazy & head-over-heals.

Schoolmarm Hannah, 20s, acting-ma to 3 sibling boys, has a Dry Gulch secret and an unspoken heartthrob desire. Marcus, lone unwed Christian man in town, partners at his Pa's bank. Will the Dry Gulch December end with "she" washing the socks of "he?" Will the anonymous town matchmaker intervene? Nay, tragedy strikes Hannah's house.

Only negative is a lovely girl's head being chopped in half on the cover.
Romance even a cow-BOY can read. With darlin', of course.

I bought this book solely on the fact that Karen Witemeyer was a contributing author and I was NOT disappointed. It was great reading about Neill Archer finding true love and getting an update on the other Archer brothers as well.

The other stories in the book were cute too. I read this book in one evening and started over again the next day because I enjoyed it so much.

3.0 von 5 Sternen To Novella or not to Novella.... 1. Januar 2014
Von Amber Perry - Veröffentlicht auf
OK. I've read several novellas now and I'm developing quite a strong opinion about them. *oh dear* But before I divulge that, let me talk about this particular collection as a whole.

It's nice to see these authors that we love getting together to write shorter stories with a similar theme. I thought that was fun. I enjoyed seeing Neill, especially, since I'm always a HUGE fan of Karen's. The plots of the various novellas were enjoyable with varying degrees of excitement and drama, and it was a very easy read.

Do I recommend this book? Absolutely....
Will you be sorry you bought it? No way....

*do you sense a "but" coming?*

But (there it is!) for me, these stories didn't feel natural--or they didn't feel like they flowed naturally out of the authors brains like a lot of the novels we read. For me--and this might just be me--I sensed the publisher in the background saying something like, "Hey, we've got an idea for a novella collection we want you to be a part of and we want to do it this way." Do you know what I mean? Maybe I'm just being way too picky. This is the real reason why I've shied away from these collections in the first place, and now my fears are realized. THIS IS JUST MY OPINION. There are tons of raving reviews about these types of collections, so obviously there's a real market for them. For me it's a no-go.

Now, as for my overall opinion of novellas generally.... I'm not a fan. They are delightful little stories, but that's it. They don't stick with me, they don't have meat. In fact, sometimes I read them and think, "Shoot! Why didn't they make this into a full novel, it would have been great!" And I just end up feeling jipped. Has that ever happened to you?

In the end, yes, this book does deserve my second highest rating, but that's all. And will I be tempted to pick up any more novellas or novella collections? I don't think so. *frown*

*thank you to Bethany House for my free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review*
