Der Autor über sein Buch
Praised by one of Mary Cassatt's niecesI don't regard this modest work as a definitive biography in any sense of the word. While it does contain the salient features of Cassatt's life, I was more interested in attempting to capture this extraordinary artist's spirit and ability to remain a proper American lady while defying a good many of the conventions of her day. Her talent and fortitude even won over the artist whom she most admired, Degas. More satisfying to me than any praiseworthy review was a handwritten note of appreciation from one of Miss Cassatt's nieces, commending the book's honesty
