2.0 von 5 Sternen Not My Cup of Tea - Erotic Novella 8. September 2014
Von Judge Tabor - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
Steamy/Erotic Short Story

The basis of the story was interesting. Julianna Armitage is a young woman who was married at age 18 to a total El Jerko. He wasted his pleasure on whoring with both men and women and Julianna was never given any pleasure in the marital bed. Upon his death after four years into the marriage, she figures no more marriage for her. Instead - she's thinking - why not learn what it means to give and receive pleasure and then take up a lover.

She chooses Marcus Wilding, one of her brother's childhood friends and a man she has known from the time she was a little girl to be her teacher. He's willing, but Julianna has no idea he's interested in her heart as well as her body and has been since dancing with her at Almack's four years previously - shortly before he left to fulfill his service in the military. And, that's about as much of a storyline the reader actually gets because most of the book is taken up with sexually charged encounters between Marcus and Julianna.

This book isn't for everyone and in truth, had it not been a very quick read, I wouldn't have finished the book. I'm more interested in a great story than erotica.

3.0 von 5 Sternen A Titillating Prequel 4. September 2014
Von PURPLE JEWELS - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
Maybe 3.5 stars. As the 51 pages should indicate this is a very short story/prequel but I still found it to be a titillating and fairly satisfying introduction to the series. The character development is minimal but sufficient enough for me to like both characters and to have been delighted by their inevitable outcome. The plot was predictable but still sufficiently engaging. As for the suggestive language and the sex scene, I think that given the plot, as well as, the description of the book provided on the product page that the book contained the aforementioned should not have been surprising. Besides the scenes were quite, quite tame as far as description of sex scenes go, unless one is more the puritanical sort, and their inclusion was consistent with the storyline rather than gratuitous or crass. I tend to prefer my love scenes with a bit more provocativeness so unless the plot for the first book in the Series is otherwise exceptional it is doubtful that I would be interested in reading it. At the time of this posting, this book was a free download but unless Marcus and Julianna are prominent characters in the first book I wouldn't suggest paying to read this prequel. I don't recall any proofing errors so if there were any they weren't distracting enough for me to notice. However, I tend to be a tad bit more lenient in this regard than many of my fellow readers.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Too Short to Be Compelling 8. September 2014
Von S. Melo - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
MARCUS WILDING: DUKE OF PLEASURE is a very short novella that introduces Mortimer's new series. It is the story of Julianna Armitage who was widowed after being married to a disagreeable man who cared not about her. She has come to Marcus Wilding, Duke of Worthing to ask him to tutor her as to pleasure so that she can take a lover. Unknown to Julianna, Marcus has loved her for years and now intends on luring her into marriage.

This novella is short and good enough but there is little disclosed about Marcus and Julianna except for their physical relationship that is detailed here. The novella is a nice start to the series but was too short for me to really care about the characters. It was worth the price (free!) and the time I spent reading it. I look forward to reading more of the series.
4.0 von 5 Sternen Introduces a very fascinating group of gentlemen. A promising start to a new series! 30. September 2014

Carole Mortimer begins her Dangerous Dukes series with this novella and features Marcus Wilding, said to be "the most accomplished lover in England" (mentioned 5 times in the novella) who has been approached by Lady Julianna Armitage, for lessons in lovemaking. It is an unusual request coming from a lady, and made even more unusual because said lady is the younger sister of Marcus's long-time friend.

And then there's the fact that Marcus has loved Lady Julianna for more four years, ever since her come-out.

Now a widow, Lady Julianna is free to make her own choices in life -- and she wants to experience passion. Of all the gentlemen of her acquaintance, she approaches Marcus for two reasons: first,as her brother's friend, she could rely on him for discretion, and, second, she's always loved Marcus. I loved how Julianna is taking control of her own life and destiny, and I love her boldness and audacity to approach a man such as Marcus with her curious request. It's also amazing how she doesn't let Marcus intimidate her. ^_^

"Forgive me, Lady Armitage, but for a brief moment I was sure I heard you request that I tutor you in the art of making love to and with a man before you take a lover!"

Julianna remained unmoved by the hard and derisive smile that accompanied Marcus Wilding's drawled dismissal of such a notion ever being possible. "There is nothing wrong with your hearing, Your Grace. Except perhaps for me to add that I made a statement of intent, rather than a request," she added with the same determination she knew to be evident in the sharp tilt of her chin."
- Opening lines of the novella

* * *

She had been a young lady of only eighteen summers on her wedding day four years ago, her heart full of optimism for what the future might hold. But three years of that cold marriage to the adulterous Lord John Armitage and almost a year of widowhood following his death, had resulted in Julianna vowing not to remarry when her year of widowhood came to an end in just two weeks' time. No, better by far to take a lover, she had decided. One of her own choosing and on her own terms.

Carole Mortimer's 51-page novella is about seduction, but it's made more meaningful because of the feelings that our hero and heroine have kept hidden from each other for a long time. There's a lot of dramatic irony in their circumstance: they're trying to approach their situation in a business-like manner, but there's just so much emotion that's threatening to burst forth to the surface. Their current situation hinged on a Big Mis that happened all those years ago, when Julianna turned 18. It resulted in her marrying someone else. I love how their lessons progress and how Carole Mortimer breaks down the art of making love into the various senses: sight, sound, smell, taste, touch -- showing, how each aspect of our being participates in this glorious culmination and expression of love. Their encounters are titillating and steamy, but it also served as a way for Marcus and Julianna to get reacquainted: to discover the persons they have become after four years apart and for Julianna to find the woman she would have been had she not married John Armitage.

Mortimer also lays down the groundwork for the series by introducing a fascinating group of men, who are either dukes, or are heirs to the dukedom. (She introduces two of them at the end of the novella: Darian Hunter and Zachary Black, and the short snippets of their stories are very promising. ^_^)

2.0 von 5 Sternen I may try again, but this wasn't encouraging. 2. September 2014

After a disastrous first marriage, Julianna just wants lovers in the future. Can't blame her, she had valid reasons for her cynicism. She turns to Marcus, her brother's best friend, for lessons in how to be a lover.

So this was all about sex, of course, but there was a *fair* depiction, though hurried, of Marcus' long-standing love of Julianna too. There was also a *fair* characterization of the two protagonists which was also given superficial treatment. Even with that, however, the 51 pages amounted to just one long sex scene, about 88% of the story.

Since this is purportedly a prequel to a series, am I to understand that the next story will be one long sex scene, only longer? The writing style was very nice, polished. But a little bit goes a long way with this particular topic. It eventually sounds clinical. To offer space to develop a plot and the characters, this should have been a novella, not a short story IMO. As is, it seems designed purely to titillate, which it didn't; rather, it began to bore.

This author is new to me. I like her writing style. Now I'll check reviews of her other works to hopefully learn how her plots trend in those.

This one got old. I liked the characters, what I knew of them, and I can handle sex scenes, but there were about 45 pages too many of them. Too much for a short story, and the yawn factor set in.
