Every author wants to see his story on the screen. A movie based on the author's work is the pinnacle of commercial success, bringing authors to fame and fortune, and book sales to otherwise unattainable heights. Eight of the top ten biggest-grossing films of all time are adaptations, and the world's top-earning authors all have heavy film involvement. Yet there is no book to guide authors to this promised land. Marlow fills this gap, showing writers how to navigate the path from story through adaptation to the often baffling world of Hollywood deal-making. Far from being yet another general book on screenwriting, this book specifically addresses the process from the non-screenwriting storyteller's point of view.

5.0 von 5 Sternen The title is too modest 18. Dezember 2012

Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
The title of this book is too modest. It could be "Develop a Great Story and Adapt it into a Great movie." It's also strong on business essentials from industry insiders. Highly recommended.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Essential Book on Film Adaptation 14. Dezember 2012
Von Prufrock - Veröffentlicht auf
If you have written a novel and you think it would make a great movie, you are going to have to read this book. It answers most of the basic questions that you will be asking at the start of the process: What kinds of stories can be adapted? How do I pitch a film project? How do I judge visual potential? What average length are producers looking for? Should I write my own screenplay? Marlow answers these questions (and more) with the help of major Hollywood insiders who bring the real world to this book.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Smart Intelligent Book 19. Dezember 2012
Von m. adams - Veröffentlicht auf
This is an intelligent book full of practical useful advice on the adaptation of stories and books for film. Marlow does an excellent job researching his subject, and has personal experience himself having broken into Hollywood with no connections going in. In addition the book includes many valuable interviews with other Hollywood insiders who share their practical advice within these pages too. A solid choice for any screenwriter wishing to know more about the ins and outs of adaptation as well as what Hollywood is looking for in books and scripts.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Great insights on writing and selling screenplays 9. Januar 2013
Von Duncan Lane - Veröffentlicht auf
This is a very good book. It provides excellent guidance on how to write a screenplay, and delves deeply into the business side of Hollywood. My impression is that the author has put in many years of hard work to learn his trade and is genuinely interested in helping people who are just starting out. He provides a wealth of information, facts, figures and recommendations, all in a lively conversational style. The book was a quick and easy read, but one that I will return to many times as a vital reference. I thoroughly recommend it to anyone who wants to write a screenplay.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Great! Practical, Useful, Timely Information! 5. Januar 2013
Von Ken Howard, LCSW - Veröffentlicht auf

Very few books have the value of this one -- it's full of easy-to-understand, straightforward, specific, realistic, and yet instructive and supportive information on how to adapt material. I'm currently adapting a novel into a screenplay, and this is exactly what I needed to guide that process. This book would be a bargain at twice the price; I highly recommend it. Congratulations to the author for delivering a book that is really legitimate and useful; it is much appreciated!
