Pressestimmen

An inspiring and straightforward introduction to soap making. The book includes just the right balance of technical detail, scientific explanation and practical advice to guide the beginner soap-maker. In addition the step by step instructions are complemented by numbered photographs which clearly illustrate the soap making process. It is written in a friendly, helpful style, showing the experience of the author, and building confidence in the reader to have a go. The photographs and styling show case a high-quality end-product which would satisfy those who wish to create home made products as gifts. Andrew Hoskins This publisher has a fantastic series of books on a great many crafts; however, "Make Your Own Soap" is a topic I've wanted to know more about for some time. I purchase handmade soaps and have always admired the craftsmanship of well made soap. Not only am I looking for quality ingredients and a soothing scent, I also want my soap to look like a bit of artistry went into it. This book will help you achieve all of these things. This book is a wonderful resource for a beginner soap maker. It gives readers the basic steps to making soap using the "cold process" and walks you through it from the very beginning. Everything from equipment needed, an explanation of base oils, additives, fragrancing, and colouring to the final clean up, it is all covered! The photographs are excellent illustrations of method and will assist you with the process. Supplies needed are easily identifiable and my favorite part is the "troubleshooting" section at the end. Does your batter look curdled? Have your additives sunk to the bottom? There's help with that. Overall, a valuable addition to any craft or hobby enthusiast's book shelf. Melissa Legacy Excellent. Less is more for this book. My very first attempt - worked wonderfully. If you're new to soaping, then this is where to begin! Jools R (from Amazon.co.uk review) Thought the book was very good, and easy to follow, I have made one batch and intend to make another very shortly. Bubbles (from Amazon.co.uk review) I received this book as a Birthday Present and just love it! It has easy to understand instructions and has good clear pictures to help you make your first bar of soap using the cold process. I can't wait to have a go and would thoroughly recommend it. It's a handy size book too - fits easily into your handbag to read "on the go". Mrs Clark (from Amazon.co.uk review) The book was shipped promptly and received in excellent condition. I have found it to be informative, well-illustrated and very helpful in understanding how to make my own soap. It is short but complete and worth purchasing. Deanna Gail Fenton (from Amazon.co.uk review)

Kurzbeschreibung

A full-colour, step by step, photographic guide to making soap. An exceptionally easy-to-follow, step-by-step photographic guide to making soap, showing the basic steps to making soap using the 'cold process' method. All the ingredients are easily obtainable and you can make the soap in the comfort of your own kitchen. The book includes three gorgeous recipes, starting with a tried and tested recipe that works really well. Learn how to make white lavender soap, honey and wheatgerm soap and palm-free rose soap. Each recipe gets a tad more adventurous, but all are well within the scope of a beginner soap maker.

Perfect for the beginner soapmaker 30. November 2011
Von Amanda G. - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
I loved this book. Joy James did a fabulous job in breaking down the how-to's of soapmaking. She even included some elusive tips that I wished I would have known when first starting out. For example...she mentions how soap made with goat's milk will have that funky smell when first cut. Oh how I wish someone would have told me that when I made my first batch of goat's milk soap!

She goes over the history of soap making, safety, equipment, oil properties, additives, fragrances, coloring and more! She provides three recipes including a palm free recipe that I can't wait to try out!

At the end of the book is a glossary and a very helpful trouble shooting guide.

I have several soap making books and this one (BY FAR) has the best step by step photos. The photos are beautiful from the cover of the book to the end of the book. There are some wonderful photos of trace and gel phase...something some books only explain but it really does help to see it.

So whether you are new to soap making or are a seasoned veteran I really think that this book is a great addition to a soap maker's collection. The photography alone makes it worth the purchase.

Excellent introduction to soapmaking 17. November 2011
Von greatcakesoap - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
This book really is a fabulous little starter for someone who wants to make their first batch of soap. It includes plenty of history, helpful hints, and most importantly: PHOTOS! Out of all four soapmaking books I currently own, this is the first one that has step-by-step photos of the entire process. It even has an actual picture of what trace looks like. This could have saved me from re-batching the very first batch I ever made back in November 2002!

There are three different beginner soap recipes - including a palm-free one with reasons why some soapmakers choose not to use palm oil. The author gives ideas of where to buy ingredients as well - although she lives in the UK, and most of the resources included are from there with a few others from various other countries. There is a glossary of soapmaking terms and a short section on troubleshooting. All very well put-together and easy to read.
At Least the Pictures Were Pretty 28. März 2012

Buy this "book" and all you will be paying for are very pretty pictures. I can only assume the other two reviewers (on whose information I used in determining to purchase this book) were friends of the author.

First, this wasn't a book. At only 6" in height and a whopping 48 pages it's more like a glossy pamphlet. And even then I would have given it a pass, had this pamphlet contain more than 3 soap recipes. You heard right. For $12 you get a lot of very glossy pictures and three recipes. And don't expect there to be any special tidbits about coloring, layering, swirling or different processes either, because apparently the author thought 3 very BASIC recipes and a bunch of pics were enough to warrant the price.

1 star for the nice photos, but really, I could've gotten pics from google for free. I feel ripped off.
