4.0 von 5 Sternen Fun Book for Learning about the Process of Comic Book Creation 21. September 2014
Von Tom Farr - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I've always been a fan of comics and comic book heroes. Comics are a great way of telling a story because of the visual nature. The Killing Joke by Alan Moore is probably one of my favorite graphic novels ever because of how well the story is communicated using images and dialogue. I'm a storyteller, and I've always wanted to try my hand at some point in creating a story through a comic book.

MAKING COMICS LIKE THE PROS is a great introductory guide that walks you through the process comic book creators go through to produce a comic book. The authors, Greg Pek and Fred Van Lente, share their experience working on some of the most loved comic book characters in history. You'll learn the whole process from pitching to writing to drawing, inking, and lettering, all the way to publishing. They cover how to find and keep an audience without minimizing the difficulty of breaking in to the comic book industry.

It's a fun book with some very helpful insight for those who want to work in the comic book industry.

5.0 von 5 Sternen How to create a comic with others and sell it 8. Oktober 2014
Von Debbie - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
"Make Comics Like The Pros" is a book on how to write (and otherwise create and sell) comic books and graphic novels. It's similar to "Words for Pictures" in that it talked about the importance of working well with all the other people involved in making a comic. This book gave more information on how to sell your own comic independently or through a publisher.

The authors talked about how to co-write comics and actually created a short comic, step-by-step, to show how it is done. For the art and editing parts, people that they have worked with described their job and gave some tips on how to do their job well. It focused more on comic books than graphic novels or webcomics, but a lot of the creation information also applied to those formats. I think this an excellent book for people wanting to understand how the comic industry currently works and to learn how to create a comic with others and sell it.

I received this book as a review copy from the publisher through Blogging for Books.
5.0 von 5 Sternen Excellent How-To About the Comics Creation and Publishing Process 29. Oktober 2014
Von Scott Knight - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
Make Comics Like the Pros, by Greg Pak and Fred Van Lente, is the latest in a recent string of books about creating comics. Much like Brian Michael Bendis's Words for Pictures, this book is an excellent resource for the new and/or inexperienced comic creator. Rather than focus on how to write or how to draw, though, Make Comics Like the Pros takes the reader through the process of creating and publishing a comic. It is a very thorough examination, and appears to cover all the bases.

The book includes chapters on writers, artists, the rest of the creative team (inkers, letterers, colorists, and editors), how to pitch your idea, getting your comic out via print or digital publishing, and finding/reaching/ keeping your audience. Throughout the whole book, Pak and Van Lente have put examples of what they are discussing, usually from one of their own books. Several of their colleagues also contributed advice. Additionally, many of the sections discussed have their own list of "commandments"; for example, Commandments for Editing, or Commandments for Lettering. Each of these commandments contain excellent and well-thought out suggestions. Finally, Pak and Van Lente, along with artist Colleen Coover, have created a new 8 page comic called "Swordmaids" to illustrate each step of the process. I found this to be truly helpful, as the writers were following their own advice.

I highly recommend Make Comics Like the Pros to anyone interested in the comics creation process, or anyone interested in creating their own comic.

I received a preview copy of this book from the Blogging for Books program in exchange for an honest review.
5.0 von 5 Sternen Perfect read for becoming a Pro Comic Book Creator 12. September 2014
Von Natosha Miller - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
Greg Pak and Fred Van Lente's book, Making Comics Like The Pros is a wonderful way to learn what it takes to craft a well designed book of art and words. Honestly, to me a comic book is just words and plenty of art that entertain.

The words correspond to the action and emotions in each comic strip. Therefore, it may seem like an easy task to be a comic strip writer, but there is a bit more that goes into creating a professional comic book. That's why I am glad to have had a chance to take a view into this book and learn some steps these creators had to take to developing the most famous villains and heroes we all came to love. They had been writing and creating those Batman and Superman action comics for DC as well as a few others, that many of us read over and over!

I know when I look into a comic book my attention is right on the artwork and the little sayings of action or emotion given by that character. I really think if your into reading comic strips, than maybe you had a thought of actually making some of your own. Who knows, maybe you'll be known for a few that everyone is buying.

This book can only help you understand the process, get you a start and teach you new things. Therefore, if you want to have a few interesting views of what it takes to be a pro comic book creator or who the known pro writers came to be and what they can offer you to get you started, than at all means I would say your best bet is to purchase this book and get your future started!
5.0 von 5 Sternen A really insightful book! 17. November 2014

I recently read, " make comics like the pros" by Greg Pak and Fred Van Lente. A few of my children and their friends ( fiancé) are comic book readers. I saw this book and I'm an artist so I thought, " Hey, this might be an interesting read." I really didn't know what to expect and can't believe how much I really enjoyed this book! The two authors have collaborated on some well known comics and went so far as to create a comic for illustration purposes during the writing of this book. I really enjoyed following along the steps as they developed the script and all phases of writing and illustrating - even offering tips on promoting your work and interesting advice that any artist or author would enjoy. I loved the dialogue. For example: " you're about to dive into a giant pool of awesome directly relevant to whatever interests in comics creation might be." I'm also going to give this book five stars on Amazon. Thank you to blogging for books for the opportunity to review this book . This review is my personal opinion and I was in no way compensated for this review.
