Alle Elemente eines guten FantasyRomans, einschließlich Hexerei, Schwertkämpfe und bösartiger Monster, sind in diesem grandiosen Buch vereint, und die Spannung bleibt bis zur letzten Seite erhalten. Nicht nur FantasyFans werden dieses Buch lieben. Die englische Version ist nicht allzu schwer zu verstehen, 2-3 Jahre Englisch sollten reichen. Sie werden das Buch nicht aus der Hand legen, bevor sie nicht auf der letzten Seite angekommen sind. Und selbst dann wird Sie dieses Buch noch beschäftigen.

Although 'Morningstar' is a departure from Gemmell's usual third person storytelling style, the book delivers some hard personal & philosophical punches from a first person perspective. What the book fails to deliver in overall characterization due to this 'first person' perspective, it more than makes up through the development of the main character himself. Mr Gemmell has a tremendous grasp of human nature & motivation, & it comes through on every one of his books. He makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story itself, and not a spectator watching a two dimensional fabrication. You care about what is going on & you feel the sense of loss or joy yourself when it does occur. I had a great time reading it for the third time this last week...^_^

David Gemmel versteht es in seinen Werken, den wahren Helden darzustellen. Was aber, wenn der Held der Geschichte ein völlig amoralischer Galgenstrick, Dieb und Mörder ist, dem nichts über das eigene Wohlergehen geht und dem andere Menschen absolut gleichgültig sind? Jarek Mace, der Held der Geschichte, schlittert förmlich in eine Geschichte hinein, die ihn zum "Helden", dem Morningstar macht. Gleichgültig, dass er seine Kämpfe und Heldentaten für die vermeintlich Schwachen ausführt - und doch in Wirklichkeit seine Taten rein aus der Gier nach Gold und Rache geschehen und dann nur als "wahre Heldentaten" verbreitet zu werden. Erzählt wird diese Geschichte aus der Sicht eines Barden, der in seiner fast schon träumerisch romantischen Sicht, diesen "Helden" begleitet, ihn unterstützt, von ihm enttäuscht und doch immer wieder bestätigt wird.
Ein wahrhaft furioses Werk, dessen inhaltliche Wendungen derart unvorhersehbar sind, dass man stets von Neuem überrascht wird und mehr als einmal förmlich platt ist, wie sich die Story entwickelt. Die Charaktere sind großartig und sehr tiefgründig gezeichnet. Der Kampf Gut gegen Böse wird nicht auf dem Schlachtfeld zwischen zwei Helden in Hell und Dunkel gewonnen, sondern in der Seele jeder einzelnen Person, die immer wieder an ihre Grenzen gelangt, an denen sie sich für den richtigen Weg entscheiden muss.
Fazit: Brillante Kampfszenen, magische Elemente, großartige Personen und eine absolut vielfältige Welt machen dieses Fantasywerk zu einer Ausnahmeerscheinung!

David Gemmel is a master of showing the true hero! But what is if this "hero" is a person without moral, a thief and murderer, who only thinks about his own destiny and whom are other persons absolutly unimportant?
Jarek Mace is the hero of this story, the morningstar! It is fascinating that all the time he is acting only for his own purpose, gold and wealth, but all the people are thinking he is a true warrior fighting for the poor. The Story is telling by a bard who is a dreaming and very romantic person who fights with Jarek and often see that the "hero" in life is not the hero in his ideals!
A brillant book which is full of surprising ends. The charakters are fascinating and with deep backgrounds. The fight good against evil is not winnig on the battlefield but in the soul of each human, who have decided for the true way of life.
So: Brillant fights, magical elements, wonderful persons and a fascinating new world are making this book to an outstanding story.
