The key feature in this book is cockpit detail and instrumentation. Other topics covered by the photos are: day fighters, nightfighters, ground attack aircraft, bombers maritime and reconnaissance aircraft, and those used in primarily civil and commercial capacities as well as for training and liaison, and will be ideal for those seeking detailed reference material on this complex subject.

No color 27. September 2012

luftwaffe camouflage and markings 1933-1945 K>A> Merrick, Eddie J.Creet and Brett Green
I know that most of the material available is in black and white. Therefore when you have a title like camouflage and markings is understood that some color might come to play. How can you illustrate the proper camouflage if no color is used. This is the main failure of this book. There are the sample of markings and camouflage but it was not translated to color samples. Other books made an effort to insert the illustration of the referred aircraft, there is more color in a box of a resin model than in this book. We are left the same way because the descriptions are not sufficient to even imagine which colors are in the aircraft.
This book should be re-edited with color illustrations that bring some justice to the explanations. Once this is done: divide the years from 1933 to to 1940 and from 1940 to 1945.

Luftwaffe Photo Scrapbook! 30. November 2008
Von Michael OConnor - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Gebundene Ausgabe
Intended as a photographic supplement to the two-volume LUFTWAFFE CAMOUFLAGE AND MARKINGS, 1933-1945 set, this 2007 volume from Midland Publishing offers up 144 pages of well captioned photos of Luftwaffe aircraft. Merrick, Creek and Green are some of the most knowledgeable Luftwaffe authorities in the world and this excellent book reflects their widespread knowledge and photo collections.

The book is divided into nine chapters: Day Fighters; Night Fighters; Ground-Attack Aircraft; Bomber Aircraft; Maritime Aircraft; Reconnaissance Aircraft; Civil, Commercial and Military Aircraft; Training, Liaison and Light Aircraft; and Instruments and Cockpit Interiors. The final pages contain corrections and addition to the two-volume set.

As an example of the book's coverage, the Day Fighters chapter devotes 33 pages to that branch of the Luftwaffe. Photo coverage begins in 1936 with the Heinkel 51. Each 'new' fighter - Bf 109, Bf 110, FW 190, etc. - is introduced in chronological order with photos showing standard and special markings, camouflage schemes, etc. The Day Fighter chapter includes 60 black & white, 14 color pix and two camouflage diagrams.

While readers will delight in the many previously-unseen photos, the extensively detailed captions are also quite interesting. Although the price tag is a bit pricey ($44.95), the illustrations and information make this book a must-have for Luftwaffe enthusiasts. Recommended.

Excellent reference source 2. Oktober 2008

If you own the two main volumes of Luftwaffe Camo and Markings, you will definitely want this Photo Archive in your Luftwaffe reference collection. Detailed captions on most photos provide excellent analysis and photographic interpretations of colors and schemes for the aircraft depicted. An excellent resource for the student of luftwaffe history or the aviation modellor. I can highly recommend this book and, of course, the two main volumes.

Many sites talk about this series of books as a good resource and from what I saw of other volumes and from this published I decided to take the plunge on what I conciser a very pricy book for what you get. What I saw in this book was quite different from what I expected, frankly I was confusing this book with the Luftwaffe Colour series (also from the same publisher). I have an avid interest in WWII planes, and vehicles in general, but I'm not the type who will read manuals or multi-volume books about a certain engine or every millimeter of a vehicle. With that, I found this book not totally aimed at me. There is no index for terms so I had to look up any technical definitions I was was not familiar with, along with a visual reference for color codes. I was really hoping for a book with both technical info, good captions and some (all would be too much to ask for) illustrations of the planes in the photos. After reading every caption in this book I was amazed 1, at how bad I was at picking up detail in pictures and 2, how much I really did not know about these planes and their marking. I found the captions very technical but useful, correcting several misconceptions I had about color and marking systems, but to be truthful more than half the time I was taking their word for details because I could not make them out in the photo, though I did not sit down with a magnifying glass.
My main point is that if you are not a seasoned Luftwaffe Vet this book might go over your head many times, but if you are, this might be a good buy. I personally found the Luftwaffe Colours series much more useful and since it had more volumes a lot better detailed on the various plane types flown. It's a shame this book has not been released in soft cover because the price of hard cover makes my purchase sting a bit.
