Someone who Hates leftovers has fallen in love 25. März 2014

Format: Taschenbuch Verifizierter Kauf
I have been a subscriber to Nick Evan's blog for some time and have loved any recipe of his I've tried, so i was excited about a cook book. I was less excited when I heard it was related to leftovers, since I have a disdain for leftover food and eating the same meal more than once. The recipes in this book completely transform your leftovers into something new, which means you waste less and save more money, and the quality of food doesn't suffer.
I love to cook. I have dozens and dozens of cook books, and I love trying new recipes. This book takes a different approach to cook books by helping you get the most of your money while trying new recipes. Instead of going to the store and spending $400 on groceries to try your 7 new recipes for the week, this book narrows that down to one major cooking endeavor and then ways to use the leftovers from that to create dishes that don't feel like leftovers. I recommend this book, especially for those like me who's shopping addiction is not the Gap, but the grocery store. You can have delicious meals without spending a fortune at the store.

Great Cookbook for Busy Families! 9. Mai 2014
Von Lori Lange - Veröffentlicht auf
Format: Taschenbuch
I have to tell you straight away > my family really hates leftovers. I make a fabulous recipe, and the leftovers from that recipe just sit in the refrigerator untouched. I love how this cookbook directs you to prepare a base recipe from which to create a whole bunch of new recipes. It's genius! Who wants to eat the same leftovers 3 days in a row when you can repurpose them to make something new? I consider this cookbook a gift to my kitchen, and I appreciate the fact that it has inspired me to do the same with other meals that I make. I made Nick's fabulous Slow Cooker Pork recipe... we piled the pulled pork onto buns and into lettuce wraps and a couple of days later I made his recipe for Pulled Pork BBQ Pizza. All was delicious and my family loved it. The rest of the pork is in the freezer on hand for another busy night (I'll be happy to pull it out and make the Pulled Pork Mac n Cheese next). This is a terrific book for busy families, large families, and people who are meal planners.

Lots of great ideas 3. Mai 2014

It wasn't exactly what I expected - I figured it would be more of an ad-hoc guide to repurposing leftovers of whatever you happen to make. It's a little different - basically there are a bunch of basic preparations for assorted meats, veggies and starches; and then for each base there are a handful of recipes you can make with the leftovers. It teaches you how to plan your meals for the week around a couple central ingredients. All the recipes are easy and everything I've made so far has been good! A great cookbook for busy people who want to eat well, those new to meal planning or anyone who just wants to cook more efficiently.

Wowza! Recipes that work! 19. Juli 2014

I admit it readily, I am a cookbook hoarder from a long line of cookbook hoarders. There are cookbooks in my family that are actual books and cookbooks that are handwritten. Each one is a treasure and has at least one or two recipes to use.

I saw this book and perked up. I read the reviews and thought hmmmmm. I waited a bit. I browsed facebook. I checked Nick Evans blog. The blog sold me. I bought the book.

This book is neatly arranged by main ingredient. There is a recipe for the main ingredient, then a list of what ca be made from leftovers of that ingredient. There is an index, something becoming a lost art in today's cookbooks.

Because I am a cookbook hoarder, I switched to ebooks. It is neater, no dusting and I have the books right where they belong because no one wandered off with one. Some books are worthy enough to be purchased in print form also now. These books are right in the kitchen for weekly use and this one is going in that shelf as soon as I am paid next week!

Delightful recipes, written in an easy to follow conversational manner, these recipes ca be followed by anyone able to read who has basic cooking skills. That is important to me as I am teaching someone to cook. She sometimes freaks out if she thinks the dish is cooking wrong so small helpful bits of encouragement are a bonus. ("Don't worry if a few grains of rice escape while draining." "Be sure to only cook your pasta al dente so it does not become soggy during baking." "Use a meat thermometer to check your pork.")

Color this jaded cookbook gal impressed. I will be a regular blog follower as well.

One of the most interesting cookbooks I've ever tried. It's especially great for me because I'm only cooking for two so there are always leftovers. The tips in it are not the same ones you get in every other book. I love it!
