Great to see Beverly Kaye and Sharon Jordan-Evans come out with the 5th edition of this classic! Not only are the ideas & strategies for helping managers to engage & retain their employees timeless, but the authors have made some great enhancements this time around. They have made the language in the various chapters much more globally-friendly, with much less American lingo. They have moved the Retention/Engagement Index, a quiz to give managers a snap-shot of how they are doing now, up to front of the book so it will be much easier to find. And they have added a chapter near the end of the book called "Calling all Managers of Managers" to provide recommendations for how more senior managers can coach managers that report to them on these strategies with their people. Still love the layout of each chapter - 26 strategies in alphabetic order, with checklists, stories and quick recommendations for action by managers. This is still one of my favorite books to recommend to managers everywhere - hooray to Bev and Sharon!

In my line of work there is stress and a lot asked of employees. With that in mind I at times have been finding people disengaging, sometimes to a great extent, and this does not bode well for their overall productivity or their willingness to go above and beyond. As a leader I know that I have to do what I can to engage and motivate them and this book gives me many tools to do just that. While I have never read the other versions of this book, I have to say that I am impressed with the overall information shared in the book. The information is practical and easy to implement. The author share the information in a straight forward manner and I find that I have already started using it. No matter if it is with my student employees or my professional staff the tools and resources shared here make sense for people at all levels of employment. I am looking forward to continuing to use this well into the future!

Unlike the hundreds of management books out there that can be rather philosophical and academic on how to create a productive work environment (with many of the concepts capable of being covered in three, not three hundred, pages), this book focuses on 26 strategies with countless practical actions under each strategy that a manager can take to make the work environment (read: "people") highly productive.

Best yet, the authors' strategies for employee engagement and subsequent retention don't cost big bucks to implement. And if you haven't figured out how much payroll dollars you lose by disengaged employees who ultimately leave, you're missing a big chance at improving your bottom line.

If there was ever a phenomenal return for money spent, it's in implementing Love 'Em or Lose 'Em's 26 strategies. But that means you have to first invest in the book! Buy it!

Well, they have done it yet again! Beverly Kaye and Sharon Jordan Evans have given those of us in the Retention and Engagement/Consulting field yet another gift - the 5th Edition of 'Love 'em or Lose 'em - Getting Good People to Stay'. Rarely does a book come along that combines and maps such rich, relevant material with easy to implement solutions, all for a wide audience; be it managers, employees or individuals just looking to make a difference. The up-to- date information and statistics, coupled with quotes from business gurus in the field, (i.e. Jack Welch, David Ulrich, Tom Peters, etc.), make this a one-stop-shopping for business professionals looking for a fresh approach to timeless challenges. I highly recommend this book to anybody looking to sharpen their leadership or engagement skills, not to mention anyone who just wants to be more current on what is going on in the world of business. The global perspective, along with current information on the generational issues make it a 'must have' for every leadership library.
