I bought this anthology because I really enjoyed "Room" by Emma Donoghue and had great faith in her taste level. Reading a few pages in preview I was amazed by the quality of the first stories and immediately was on my way to proceed to check out.
And reading the first, say, five stories, I was so glad I bought this book. Lesbian stories that were well written and had their own voice and views - how often do you come across something like that? (It's never, in case you're wondering.)
And then came the boring ones that partly read a lot like fan fiction for halfway decently educated folks, and they dragged on and on until I had to lay the book to rest for a little while (so this review is only about the first 60% of the anthology). On the other hand, it did help me go to sleep earlier than usual...
All kidding aside, if you don't mind paying whatever this anthology costs to get your hands on a couple of really great stories and don't expect anything riveting from the rest, go ahead and have my blessing. If you are not like me and don't care too much about how well-written stories are because hey, you just want to read stuff about lady-loving ladies, don't hesitate and buy this book. It's really not that bad. But don't buy it if you expect hot and steamy raunchiness because as far as I can tell there is none that even comes close to the lowest level of romantic commotion lots of lesbians expect when reading lesbian themed literature.
At least my faith in Emma Donoghue's taste level is not shaken, because it is clear she could tell the great stories from the not so great ones - it just must be the reason why she clustered them together at the beginning of the anthology! It must.
