"OH MY GOODNESS. This book was excellent. There were absolutely no reasons to give this novel less than five stars (...) You could put this book up against the leading New Adult Romance authors and it would hold its own." J.P.Grider, author of The Honor Trilogy

"'Lost in Us' is really a spectacular book. It's one of those ones that I don't even know how to review because there are so many things about it that I adored. (...) I couldn't remember the last time I had felt so emotionally entwined with the storyline in a book. I couldn't deny the impact this stunning writing had on me, so it just had to get five stars." Sorcha O'Dowd

Serena has learned to live with her past, locking her secrets and nightmares deep inside her. But when her boyfriend of six years abruptly leaves her, she's catapulted back into pain, nursing a broken heart. When indulging in mountains of chocolate doesn't work, Serena decides the best way to deal with her shattered heart is to indulge in something else. A rebound . . .

The night she swaps her usual Sprite for tequila, she meets James. The encounter is breathtaking.

And best not repeated.

James is a successful entrepreneur in Silicon Valley. A man who has amassed a fortune by taking risks. A man who has shunned commitment completely, and still does. He's the exact opposite of Serena. But sometimes opposites attract. Sometimes they give in to burning passion. Sometimes opposites are perfect for each other.

James is everything her damaged soul could want. His kisses are intoxicating, his touch out of this world. He makes her forget. He grants her peace from her pain. But as they grow closer, Serena discovers she isn't the only one with a past. James carries the scars of a past much darker than hers. One that has left him damaged, hurt, and wary of love. A past that gives him the power to shatter her.

Now James and Serena must find a way to mend one another. Or risk losing each other forever.

*No cliffhanger * This novel is recommended for 17+ due to sexual content and mature themes.* The second book in the series, Found in Us, is also out, and it tells Jessica and Parker's story* Each book in the series can be read as a STANDALONE*

I enjoyed this book a lot and found it extremely difficult to put down. The writing is super clever and it is very easy to like the main character and I guess anyone could find a bit of themselves in Serena.

The book is excellent and a must read for romance lovers.

Can't wait for the next book from this author!

As to Amazon's service: I got this book on my Tablet and the process went smoothly. I had it on my tablet in just 1 minute.

1.0 von 5 Sternen WHAT ON EARTH IS HER PROBLEM? 27. Februar 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
Over the last few years i have a read quite some NA Novels, but this was by far one of the most disapointing Books. I really dont understand what Serena's Problem is. Yes, James is a mess but he is trying so hard to change for her. She is so bitchy and demands for him to tell her he loves her after only like 5 Weeks... when he is not able to say those words she leaves him.
Their on and off again Relationship is so stupid and i really wanted to shake both of them for their Behaviour, although Serena was the one i was more annoyed of. Sorry, but this was really not worth anything. I would not even give one Star, if this was possible.

This is not to be compared to Collen Hoovers writing skills. I think that the book was okay but to be honest it really got on my nerves how often they broke up and then made up again for 5 minutes so that they can break up again. Arrrr...
Next comes that I really cound not understand what Serena's the problem was. I mean she knew James for what 4 or 5 weeks and demands of him to tell her that he loves her or she cound not be with him. Really what is wrong with her??? I got the impression that the author was despreadly looking for something to write.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Awesome Debut Novel! 7. März 2014
Von Chicks Looking For A Book Fix - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition
It all begins with Serena a insecure, hard working college student who is going through heartbreak from her recent breakup of her long time boyfriend. She tries to fill her time by submitting resumes, reading books, watching The Lord of The Rings, and eating chocolate. Her best friend Jess talks her into having a girls night out so she can get out of her funk.

The girls night out includes tequila instead of sprite and the hunt for a rebound. This is when Serena and James's lives collide and it is magnetizing. James asks Serena out in an unusual manner and she does something she wouldn't normally do, she takes a risk.

James is the opposite of Serena. He is rich, hot as hell, confident, and a risk taker. He is like prince charming with a few flaws. He sweeps Serena right off of her feet by taking her on these truly amazing dates. He makes her forget her pain with each touch and kiss. One of the flaws about James is that he doesn't do commitments, which he is upfront with Serena. Serena finds out she is not the only one that is broken. When these two broken souls are together it is beautiful. The chemistry is undeniable and the sex scenes were pretty great. Something, usually from James's past would interfere with their relationship. Serena annoyed me a little with the way she treated James, her insecurities would get the best of her and she would question everything.

I really enjoyed reading Lost In Us, and I find it hard to believe that this is Layla's debut novel. It goes above and beyond what you would expect from a debut novel. I was hooked from the beginning and was definitely jealous of Serena for getting to be with James. I mean any guy who loves movies and can give you a chocolate filled heaven anytime is a keeper to me. It ended perfectly with an HEA. I can't wait to read Jess and Parker's story.

I couldn't put this book down. Layla Hagen knows how to write a sexy love story filled with angst, despair and desire. Her characters felt real to me. I was cheering Serena and James on, then I wanted to put them in a locked room and not have them come out until they worked out their issues. When I finished Lost in Us I was left wanting more stories written by Layla Hagen! I loved this book til the very end and will read whatever book Layla writes next. I loved getting lost in Lost in Us.

OH MY GOODNESS. This book was excellent. There were absolutely no reasons to give this novel less than five stars. Someone told me I should read this book, so I did. I was not expecting this. Lost in Us is a New Adult Romance and it is COLLEEN HOOVER good! Yes, I said it - you could put this book up against the leading New Adult Romance authors and it would hold its own.

Lost in Us is a story of two damaged souls afraid of love - one wants it, but won't risk anything to get it. The other feels it, but won't take the risk of letting the other know.

Throughout the story, I fell more and more in love with James - if Serena wasn't going to take him, I was (if only I could). But the harder Serena fell, the harder it was for her to accept James for who he was, scars and all. And the harder James fell, the more afraid he was to risk another fatal mistake.

I cannot wait for more novels from Layla Hagen.

Von Red, Red, they call me Red - Veröffentlicht auf

Damn me and my inability to put down a book and throw it in the DNF pile!

I found both Serena and James insufferable. Their constant childish drama just grated on my nerves after awhile. Two things saved it from being a one star. First, there were very few typos or grammar problems. Second, I liked the part where Serena and James released the balloons, I found that very sweet.

James is a 28 year old entrepreneur. He's hot! He's reckless! He's rich! He's a manwhore! He's completely anti-commitment! He's........Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Sorry, I'm already bored. This same character has appeared in many, many books, and nothing about James makes him stand out.

Serena has never recovered from her sister's death years before. She's about to graduate from Stanford, majoring in economics and computers, and is one of the top students in her class. Which is strange, considering she has the maturity of a 12 year old.

Serena and James meet, instant lust happens, and they go on about two dates and have a bunch of sex. But then Serena goes to James' apartment to bring him coffee and she finds him with another girl. A manwhore and commitment-phobe isn't being faithful? Surely you jest! And thus begins the annoying back and forth between them. They break up! They have sex! He can't love her, but can't live without her! She runs away again!

The problem here is that I cannot possibly get emotionally involved with these people who haven't even spent a full week dating each other! Three dates does not make a relationship. I never saw any connection between the two other than sex and the fact that someone close to them has died. There were red flags everywhere. He has major anger problems and she runs every time someone looks at her sideways. The best thing they could have done was run far away from each other. By the time the book ended, they have known each other about six weeks, and I bet they have spent less than six days in each other's company.

There are more books in this series about the secondary characters, but if they are as annoying as Serena and James, I'll be passing.

“I want to taste every single recipe in Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory, get myself kidnapped by elves and locked up in Rivendell, and attend the midnight released of the next book about the wizarding world that I know Rowling will write.”—Serena

Serena doesn’t take risks. Ever. She’s happy in her safe little corner where everything is steady and reliable—like her boyfriend of 6 years. Well, make that ex-boyfriend since he pulled the rug under her feet by leaving her for someone else and backpacking across Europe. It’s enough to make her want to take a few risks to actually live a little. And there’s nothing more risky than opening her heart to wealthy playboy and commitment phobe James…

“I want to be reckless. Just for once.”—Serena

I loved this book, which was surprising since I’m usually not into hot and cold relationships—and believe me, there are a lot of whiplash moments in this book as they break up and get back together! Maybe it’s because of how understandably flawed the characters are that makes this a book hard to put down. Serena and James are two people that have to really work at their relationship, which considering their past baggage, is completely understandable. It makes their story compelling since they have so many hurdles and slip ups that show that although they are trying to grow as individuals, it’s not an easy process.

I adored Serena but that’s probably because she’s a total nerd like me! I love that she’s so different than the women that James usually goes after and that they have such a great connection between them. Even though they are opposite in so many ways—especially when it comes to risk-taking—they have so many things in common to make a physical relationship transform into an emotional one as well.

James, on the other hand, has a lot to work on, and I loved his transformation and was just as heartbroken as Serena (ok, maybe not *as* heartbroken, but I was bummed out) when James made some bad choices that were ironic given his own fears and jealousy issues. There were so many times that I wanted to kick James in the pants for doing what he did, while at the same time rooting for the couple to overcome their obstacles. I especially love how strong Serena is in that she makes James work for her love. In fact, if not for some outside help from some best friends, both of our leads would have missed out on something special. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying James is a complete jerk. In fact, when he has his head straight, he makes Serena feel on top of the world and is totally lovable. The fact that we can see what he’s like when not weighed down by his past made me really root for him to win over Serena.

For heat level, it’s medium-high as their relationship is first based on lust. Serena and her best friend are graduating from college and are searching for jobs, which is where the new adult flavor comes in. Luckily, there *is* resolution at the end of the book so there isn’t a cliff-hanger! However, there are enough hints and allusions to something between Serena and James’s best friends that I can’t wait for their book, which is coming out next! Overall, this is a 5 out of 5 for me!
