Kurzbeschreibung

Dr. Kate Martin needs a vacation after a failed romance with her business partner nearly ruins her. Lee Foster is recovering from her first lesbian relationship that self-destructed when her partner moved several states away, leaving her behind. Two failed romances, a double booked vacation cabin, and a blizzard—will fate intervene again and turn a passionate affair with a stranger, into something more?

Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende

Let me tell you a little about myself. Twenty years ago, I wrote my first book just to see if I could do it. The novel occupied space on my bookshelf, unread for nearly twenty years until one day, while in a cleaning frenzy, I considered disposing of the neatly stacked but now age-yellowed pages. As I began to read the long forgotten work, I was surprised to discover that the story was enjoyable! Editing and retyping the first book provided a new sense of accomplishment and additional tales followed. Completion of This is Fitting encouraged me to write four more romance novels. I Love My Life and Sunset Island were followed by Awaiting My Assignment and its sequel, Anything Your Heart Desires. One Day Longer Than Forever is now complete, and It's Complicated is in the hands of first readers before the first big edit. Now retired, there is all the time in the world to write. I live on the east coast with my partner of twenty-eight years. Because we love a challenge, we provide a loving home for two spoiled cats instead of a dog. In addition to writing, any spare time is devoted to reading, mastering new computer programs, and socializing with friends.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Hat ein paar Längen, aber insgesamt gut zu lesen 20. Juni 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf

2.0 von 5 Sternen isn't completely what you think it'll be about 28. Juni 2014
Von Amazon Customer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I was looking for a simple story with some of my favorite lesfic story elements... snow, cabin, a blizzard... being trapped in close quarters together... conflict that turns to passion. We all love those scenarios and I could hear that story told over and over without (much) complaint. I thought I might find these things here. But I found this book cover and the blurb a little misleading and perhaps my expectations interfered with liking much of the actual story I got.

There will be spoilers ahead.

Yes, there are two leads, Kate (42) and Lee (37), who meet in a double booked vacation cabin and have to share it. But that bit of the story is only about 30% of this 244 pg book. And meeting at the cabin doesn't even happen until about 40% into the story! What we get for nearly half of the book is a very mediocre backstory on each lead and her ex and what led to their breakups. Obviously, they don't end well and our two leads sound like suffering saints. In fact, if there were cliffnotes on this book, Kate would be the Christ figure (because someone always is in cliffnotes). TMI TMI on the exes!! Worse, it's all very cliché ex drama. Two dimensional characterizations. Aside from these two lengthy threads, we get a lengthy backstory on the parents of one of the leads... to what end, I'm not really sure. For me, this is the wrong way to create depth and had just the opposite effect. Way too many couples!

That, and I just felt like it took forever for the better part of the story to actually begin. The opening was a chore. I'm just not a big fan of lead separation. So any author who isn't even going to have them meet until nearly halfway through should have something wildly interesting or superbly written to distract me. Nope. I just got impatient and bored. I also had a hard time picturing these leads, especially Lee. Don't know what she looks like at all. Ultimately, I think some of my expectations for how things would play out in the snowy cabin also let me down. Others have done it far better.

When the leads finally meet at the cabin there is zero conflict. All the stars simply aligned with one cute little doggie in tow posing into the narration as a perk. I didn't find it terribly romantic because these characters aren't developed well and I just didn't care about them very much. There is sex, but I didn't find it sexy or hot at all... read through it as passively and unmoved as I did the rest of the novel. On occasion the author's voice popped in for some political, cultural, environmental, ethical, and later, health agenda. I also didn't care for the preachy socialization and 'be out and proud' commentary.

Something organic was missing here... no real passion or emotion. Bloodless characters. I could imagine the author checking off boxes of everything she was supposed to include without adding any of the mojo it actually required.

Some conflict does arise after the cabin stuff because these leads live 4 hours apart and a long distance love affair ensues, but it didn't make the story terribly interesting for me... though I thought it was the better part of the book. And in the end everyone is perfect and good.... ack. I know this is a romance and I was looking for something simple, but this one is below average. And I can't say I'm a fan of the writing style... dull and trying too hard to say all the right things. Her other books may be better, I don't know. Not inclined to read them after this one. Just another poorly written lesfic story with inexplicably high ratings... buyer beware. Too often readers review with a loyalty for an author or community rather than an honesty about a specific book.

1.0 von 5 Sternen The value of time vs. money. Do I waste my money by not finishing the book or do I save my time by not finishing the book...? 11. Juli 2014
Von It's me - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I stopped when I was halfway through this one. I kept hoping...

The maturity of the writer is stagnant. This assumption of mine is based on the fact that this book is her fifth publication. I think assuming the writing maturity did not reverse itself on the author, she probably followed the same writing pattern as her previous works. She breaks what most consider the number one rule to writing good fiction: She tells the story, she does not show it. When I say she tells it, I mean action... by... action. Midway through the book after having read the following, "Kate stopped at the gas station to fill up the gas tank and ask directions. They did as instructed and found the realtor's office without incident. They had to park on the street in front of the office because the lot was still snow covered and there appeared to be no life inside the building." I couldn't go on. Grammatically speaking: that last sentence reads like they parked in the street because 'there appeared to be no life inside the building'. Anyway, who cares that you had to park in the street because the lot was snow covered? I say, "oh good, parked right in front of the door. How convenient is that?" I finally figured out what was missing. The descriptive adjectives in this book is minimal. This is just too mechanical for me and raises no visual stimulation in my imagination. I most likely will not try any of her other books. I need to get emotionally involved. In this case, I felt like I was reading a term paper regarding failed relationships rather than a fictional romance novel of two women overcoming the disappointment of past relationships.Sorry, one of my harsher reviews but I was disappointed.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Should have one star more than five 17. Juni 2014

This book is another reason AJ Adair is one of my very favorite authors. She creates characters the reader cares about from the very beginning, and makes us laugh and sometimes cry with them. Kate and Lee have both had some very bad relationship issIues in the past. When they are thrown together for two weeks due to a booking error on a vacation cabin, they are drawn together. But can they make a long distance relationship work? Or will it be another failure for both of them? I was so engaged with this book I had trouble getting anything else done till it was finished. AJ Adaire has another winner here, and I highly recommend her other books, Sunset Island, The Interim, Awaiting My Assignment, and Anything Your Heart Desires.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Thoroughly Entertaining 14. Juni 2014

As with all of AJ's previous books, One Day Longer Than Forever was not only a thoroughly enjoyable read but it managed to evoke a number of emotions within me. I was able to feel joy, sadness, anger and enjoy a few good chuckles along the way.
This as with Sunset Island, The Interim, Awaiting My Assignment and Anything Your Heart Desires, is a must read!
Well done AJ and thank you for yet another fantastic story.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Just ok 8. August 2014

I really loved this book from the beginning to the middle. It took effort on my part to get through the last 10-12 chapters. I felt that the author ran out of things to say. This isn't the first book I have read from this author. I usually love all her books except this particular one. Sorry for the negative review.
