When I got my hands on „London Bridges" I was hoping that it would be one of the great, riveting reads that Patterson provided us with when he started the Alex-Cross-series. Why did I hope that? Because Patterson is finally back to writing books himself and w/o a co-author. Boy, was I wrong about the riveting read!
We have all been used to gripping, riveting reads by Patterson, haven't we? To complex, fast-paced pageturners that we simply could not put down.
"London Bridges" to me is not what I have been used to when it comes to Patterson. It is not a gripping thriller as the publisher is trying to make us believe. To me it was more like an *idea* of a thriller: a few threads and leads, loosely put together without a bit of substance. Weave in some conspiracy theories as well as a few of the pet-foe-villains known to all of us and hope for the fans to fall for this one as well. I am bored to tears by now with all these so-called thrillers involving conspiracy theories and Al Qaeda etc. after tragic 9/11.
I used to be a great Patterson-fan, but he seems to have lost his touch and I had the impression that the last few books he published were solely for the sake of money and not for the sake of presenting his fans with good reads.
Result: Mr. Patterson, *please* do get back to your old self and bring us some of those great Alex-Cross-novels you used to do! This is probably going to get me oodles of negative votes, but don't bother with this one!
