There’s a cauldron of trouble brewing in Valloaria…

Download Lodestone today and strap on your broomstick –you’re in for a hell of a ride: The Witch-Hunt Series.

Two tales entwine (excerpts below).
Sabrina and Lauren’s tales entwine – linked by blood and magic. Sabrina, a newly fledged healer, is thrust out of her sheltered life at Mistress Florisah’s healing school after the destruction of the witch-ancestor portraits. An anti-witchcraft militia is poised on Karthalon’s borders threatening full scale genocide, unless Sabrina, the last of Lauren’s bloodline, can destroy the Lodestone, and restore magic to Valloaria, but the Lodestone is buried deep within the heart of the Order’s headquarters. Sabrina struggles to accept this suicide mission, and is distracted by her inappropriate affection for Micah, a prospect monk. Lauren’s ghost haunts Sabrina’s dreams as her diary reveals the tragic events behind Lauren’s actions. With invasion imminent, Sabrina embarks on her quest armed only with a sliver of the Lodestone, and Lauren’s diary but how can a lone girl prevail against an army?

Excerpt - Lauren
They attacked me alone, in pairs and in mass with their witchy ways, but their magic fell short; I was immune. Blasts of power seared from their fingertips and stonework exploded above, below and next to me, but nothing penetrated the brilliant glow of the Lodestone and they fell back, shrieking in frustration. I glowered at those not fast enough to move out of me way and they vaporized in an orange flash, to black flakes that I trampled underfoot.
Excerpt - Sabrina
A shirtless youth, with his back to her, hummed as he brushed a dark horse. The horse was standing perfectly still as if the boy’s song had lulled him to sleep. Sabrina silently observed the prospect as he worked. He was tall with a slender build, but she could see the muscles in his tanned back and arms ripple with each stroke. His brown hair was caught up in an intricate knot threaded by two long feathers; one red, the other purple. She’d never met anyone like him before.
She shuffled forward to get a better view, but her brush whacked into the wooden partition. He whirled around and she found herself staring into the brownest eyes, framed by the longest lashes she’d ever seen. They gawked at each other for a moment before Sabrina rediscovered her tongue. “I … I was sent to care for your horses.”
He pointed with his brush, to the horses behind him and said, “I’ve finished the others. Only Alloni, the brown and white, needs attention.”
Sabrina scurried to the indicated stall. Where was his shirt? As if reading her thoughts, he casually reached down and grabbed a white shirt. Slowly, he pulled it over his damp shoulders and Sabrina hastily focused on the horse. Her strokes were a bit shorter and harder than she normally applied and the horse shifted beneath the brush. Before she could correct herself, strong fingers, radiating warmth, slipped over hers and a voice laced with musk, breathed into her ear. “Not so firm. Alloni likes long, languid strokes – like this.”
Heat blazed into spots on her cheeks as she followed his movements. After several strokes he said, “That’s it, you’ve got the knack of it now.”
He released her hand and stepped away. Sabrina felt as awkward as a newborn foal so she kept her eyes averted and silently busied herself with the horse. From outside, a muffled yell filtered through the stable and the boy said, “Deakon wants me. Will you be all right finishing up?”
She didn’t trust herself to speak. “Ah-ha.”

5.0 von 5 Sternen WONDERFULLY WRITTEN STORY 7. Juni 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a wonderfully written story of good versus evil, and the consequences of actions taken in the name of revenge. Sabrina is looking forward to her graduation as a healer through the Rite of Ancestors, but as an orphan, no one knows which witch, if any, will claim her as their bloodline. The only two people that know her dark past is Mistress Florisah, her teacher and a monk named Deakon. During the Rite, Sabrina discovers she is the last remaining descendant of Lauren the Destroyer. Armed with Lauren’s diary and a silver of stone from the Lodestone, Sabrina sets off on a mission to heal the Lodestone and undo the wrongs of Lauren the Destroyer.

The story from Lauren’s diary is interwoven throughout the main plot and I eagerly looked forward to each time I went back into that storyline. Scott uses two very distinctive writing styles between the two plots, which I really enjoyed. She’s a master of description and as the reader, you can’t help but feel Lauren’s plight as she searches for her stolen child.

I do feel that Lauren’s plot is stronger than the main one with Sabrina, but that’s probably from the effect of 1st person to 3rd person. Sabrina has to overcome her own insecurities and her budding romantic feelings for Micah. And at the end, she ultimately ends up feeling the same responsibilities for her actions that Lauren did for hers.

As stated this is book one of the Lodestone series, and I look forward to book two. What secrets is Mistress Florisah keeping? Who is Dandelin? What about Micah and Sabrina?

I highly recommend this book and give it my 5 feathers.

Witch Hunt
5 stars
(2nd Review for June)

When I first started reading the book it felt like harry potter, a story written for a younger person, but I was given this book by the author for an honest review so I kept reading.
Wow. What a story, I cried so many times, not just a few tears, at one stage I had to stop reading because it became too much for me. The loss of a loved one in the book was so real and raw; that it felt as if the authors own experiences had been pasted in this book. It tore at me so much. Lauren was a woman cursed in a sense since birth, hardworking, loyal, and loving and what she was subjected to and suffered was heart wrenching, and her vengeance was understandable it was as powerful as her love.

The story is told mostly through the eyes of Sabrina a healer growing up in a world where witch craft is forbidden by the Order of Lauren. Sabrina is kind and shy, simple in ways living a protected life, with no knowledge of who she is. Until she discovers she is a relative of Lauren a women who is remembered incorrectly as being evil. As the story develops we see Sabrina conquer her fears, and she grows so much it's like watching her transform into another person. The story is fast paced and doesn't slow down at all, the lands that the author creates are haunting at times, yet so breath-taking like the forest or the city of Sha' La' Shang. The plot is thick with deceit, murder and greed.
The love story between Sabrina and Micah is there through the whole book, but it doesn't over power the story at all, it alters the future for Sabrina, but I can't wait to read the second book to see where they end up, and find out what exactly Sabrina will do now that her powers have fully ignited.

A wonderful story, one that I would highly recommend, I applaud the author for a tale that made me cry, squirm with unease, and made my heart pound with anticipation.

5.0 von 5 Sternen For readers of all ages 4. April 2013
Von John C. Horst - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition
Just as Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter are appropriate for readers of all ages, Lodestone (Witch-Hunt) will capture the attention of anyone interested in this genre, and even those who would like to venture out of their reading comfort zone. The story reads at a brisk pace, and is easy to follow, which can be daunting when delving into a fantasy world that one has obviously not experienced before.

The editing was fine, and the book was professionally prepared for the reader. There were no issues whatsoever with formatting, grammar or spelling errors. I think this is important to note.

I am looking forward to more from this writer.

4.0 von 5 Sternen A classic fantasy tale with an interesting theme. 13. Mai 2013
Von Emma Jaye - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition
There are plenty of believable 3 dimensional characters, with their own agendas and personal conflicts. It's an intriguing read and left me hungry to discover what happens to the main characters on an interpersonal level as well as in their society in general. The door is definitely wide open for future books in this series, although you aren't left hanging at the end of Lodestone, just very curious about how things will turn out.

Scenes are described beautifully, and draw you in, without the annoying repetitive details that some established fantasy authors insist on to pad their books. For example although setting up camp fires, cooking, eating and clothing is described in sufficient detail, you don't suffer endless repeats of each meal while the characters travel.

The author weaves the `back story' in via a diary, and although I found the `accent' used a little irritating at times, it is well constructed, feeding in information at a suitable pace throughout the main tale.

I'd have given it five stars if they'd been a little more 'adult situations' between the characters, but then it wouldn't appeal to such a wide audience, and it is a very personal preference.

Wendy has a great imagination, which brings her characters vividly to life. The scenes were extremely blood-thirsty at times and I was on tenterhooks, waiting to see if/or not, the characters managed to extricate themselves. I couldn't wait to turn each page and find out what happened next. A very good piece of writing. congratulations, Wendy.

4.0 von 5 Sternen A Very Enjoyable Read 2. April 2013
Von The Wishing Shelf Awards - Veröffentlicht auf
Format:Kindle Edition
I very much enjoyed this book. It was, perhaps, a little too Harry Potter for my taste and I often wondered if it was a bit too violent for the intended young adult audience, but I'm old fashioned and still wistfully remember my evenings with Enid Blyton. Anyway, it was fast and furious with a very strong opening. The writing style was very attractive (is that the right word?) and I enjoyed the descriptions of the characters; I think, perhaps, the author put a lot of work into them. There is never a dull moment and, all in all, it's a page-turner. Enjoy!
