Lock up Your Daughters - an exciting and taut psychological thriller, featuring policeman Simon Grant and entourage.

From the beginning pages the story unfolds, with many twists and turns. Characters are introduced regularly, and the yarn gets off to a great pace.

Each chapter has a title heading and date - and you need to keep your wits about you as Simon flits between different periods in his life, both present and back to university days.

And you have to pay particular attention to these periods as numerous clues are slipped in catch the reader unawares.

So, masses to think about and I have to confess I did NOT know who the murderer was until Mira K-B revealed all.

I would have given this the full Monty of 5*****, but for 2 minor things. I did have a bit of difficulty in the initial chapters, in keeping up with the rather largish cast, and I didn't really take in the dates - and these are very important, as I've already explained. Perhaps the fault lies with me, but I believe there might have been too much thrown in, in too short a time.

Saying all that, it is a rattling good story, lots of unique things to think about and I would read another of Ms K-B's books given the chance.

I wish there was the wherewithal to award this 4.5 stars as this is what the book merits.
Good luck, Mira - a great read that kept me engrossed for days!

Mira Kolar-Brown's second book, "Lock Up You Daughters", is, if anything, even better than her first, "Hiding the Elephant". HIDING THE ELEPHANT (Simon Grant Mysteries) But that's not to say that you should skip the second and plunge immediately into the first.
That would be a twofold mistake. First, because you'd be passing up a terrific book, and, second, because Mira reveals, in "Daughters", some things that remain unresolved and mysterious in "Elephant".
And, once you've been there, you can't go back.
Folks already familiar with Mira's work are going to be pleased to return to her England of the early nineties where they can, once again, catch up with Simon Grant.
Simon, for those of you who have yet to meet him, is a moral cop who leads a complicated personal life with his wife and the woman he loves.
And they are not the same person.
"Daughters" focuses on the murder of two women, separated by years in time, but whom we ultimately discover to have been victims of the same killer.
And both the identity of that killer, and the motive for the deeds, will surprise you.
At least, they did me.
This book, on Kindle, is an absolute steal. Buy it.

1.0 von 5 Sternen Plot's okay if you can find it 13. Juli 2011
Von reading maniac - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I've probably read about a million books in my lifetime. But nothing quite like this. The plot was good, but you had to dig it out of run-on sentences, missing words, spelling erros, and unmemorable characters.
The book jumps right into an interplay between two characters, neither of which has been given a personality. New characters appear in the same fashion. The angst of several marriages doesn't contribute a thing to the plot, and in fact when I finished the book I was left in a vacuum about most of the characters. What happened to them? The ending was like the author had run out of ideas and steam.
This book was not edited; if it was, it was edited by a person with English as a second language. Someone should have gone through the manuscript and, besides correcting missing words and spelling catastrophes, should have shortened the sentences and thrown out all the unnecessary bumph. I would not read another book by this author, even at 99 cents. The only reason I finished it was to find out who the murderer was. And that question was only partly revealed. Sorry, I'd give it a miss.

1.0 von 5 Sternen In serious need of an editor 25. Juli 2012

This book made me cringe throughout, with its countless spelling and grammatical errors. It seemed like it hadn't even been given a cursory proof-reading by someone with a good command of the English language. The mystery had some good points, but overall, there were too many characters to keep track of, and I couldn't wait to get to the end, not because I was in suspense, but so I could be put out of my misery. I will not be reading any more books by this author.

This sequel to "Hiding the Elephant" is in desperate need of an editor. The number of grammatical/spelling errors, typos and plain old misuse of words was abysmal.

The story wanders all over the place with characters popping up, disappearing and then reappearing much later.Thank heavens for the "search" feature.

I don't have any idea if the author ever reads these critiques, but if so I would chastise her for letting errors such as the following ever make it into print:
Whishing for wishing (three times!), style for stile, flack for flak, neigh for nigh, dogged for dodging bullets, " hey-fever," pluming for plumbing, desert for dessert, a smooth loan for lawn, loped for lopped, looser for loser, "chentrelle, cep and morelle" for chanterelles, cepes and morels, ad infinitum...truly depressing that such a poorly edited book would ever make it into the market.

The story itself has so many branches that the reader gets lost or ends up not really caring who did it. The infidelity theme carried over from the first book did almost nothing to further the story line.

For the sake of literate readers of murder mysteries, please, please do not subject us further to this kind of horribly edited verbiage..

Von Ron Chicaferro - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
This is an amazing book of crime (a double murder) and of self discovery by the main protaganist, Chief Inspector Simon Grant. As Grant starts investigating the murder of a woman it becomes apparant that it is similar to the murder of a another woman 15 years ago - when Grant was in college. The book follows Grant on the investigation and, by flash-backs, looks into Grant's life along with the lives of a number of potential suspects. You need to pay attention to the dates at the begining of each chapter since the book flips back and forth from the past to the present. There are numerous potential suspects - some painfully close to Grant's own life. Mixed into all of this is Grant's examination of his own personal life - his love for his wife's sister and his affair with her and another woman. There is a lot going on in this book.
