The material is of high quality - the illustrations are clear and are suitable for photocopying.
The vocabulary is recycled in a variety of ways in different contexts, so that it really is learned.
The mistake mentioned (salad instead of lettuce) has obviously been amended in the second edition.
It is certainly a good buy for busy teachers who have little time to produce their own material.
Unfortunately the texts on the accompanying CD are read by only two adults, who double up to speak all the parts, including the children.
Although they try to change the voices for the different roles, it is still quite obvious these are adults, and when they say things like "Thank you, Mummy" in a high-pitched voice, it just doesn't ring true. They also speak much more slowly than any of the speakers on the CDs accompanying the coursebooks on the market for the primary school, such as Playway, Sally, Discovery, Tiger Tom, etc. This would not be so bad if it didn't lead to the pronunciation being falsified. In the phrase "What's for breakfast?", for instance, the word "for" does not in normal, authentic speech contain a stressed vowel. I do see the need to speak fairly clearly and somewhat slower than normal speech for early learners, but this is overdone.
