Among the many atlases of neuroanatomy that are currently commercially available this new one is certainly the very best. Step-by-step brain dissections with commentary on the DVD (180mins runtime) take you on a journey of discovery in areas and connections of the human brain at the guiding hand of master anatomists. Everyone who has ever dissected a human brain will appreciate how hard it is to prepare connecting fibre tracts in an informative and minimally disruptive manner. What the authors perform here with apparent ease must be the result of decades of preparatory experience and cannot be replaced by the schematic line drawings currently found in text-books. The visuals on this DVD are superb and can easily replace most anatomy lectures. They are the closest thing to a real dissection that you can get and a hugely informative one. The accompanying guide-book is full of well organized photos with concise but detailed, no-nonsense descriptions of brain regions that are a pleasure to look at and very useful for every medical student rehearsing for exams. Particularly stunning are the (difficult) preparations of the entire visual pathway in the brain, a must for everyone interested in how vision really works.
The DVD is in American English and German. I will use this for my students in class for years to come as well as for neuroscience researchers in my lab wanting to get a fast and comprehensive grasp of brain anatomy. If you are a medical student, psychologist, anatomist, neuroscientist or an artist, buy it! You will enjoy it immensely!
