Legacy From Yesteryear (Historical Fiction)

Will Meg solve the clues and find true love or will she be trapped in servitude forever?

Devastated by the loss of both of her beloved parents, eighteen year old Margaret Wentworth is given more bad news, she is destitute and must leave her London home to live with relatives she has never met. After burying both parents on the same day, Meg didn't think her future could get more bleak, but her cold reception and unpleasant interview with the Duke of Rochester at her new home, The Haven, provides a dim view of indefinite, unpaid servitude.

James Cunningham, fifth son of the Duke of Sommerville, is traveling between clients and London, when he meets Meg under duress. Ever the gentleman he comes to her rescue only to fall head over heels himself. Since an official introduction was not offered, he uses other means to discover her plight.

Meg begins her duties with a heavy heart, only to discover her favorite cousin is coming to visit The Haven. After her cousin arrives, battle lines are drawn between Meg's cousins over who will determine her future. One will control her every movement, every aspect of her life and the other will grant her freedom to live the life of her dreams. All Meg has to do is solve a forgotten family mystery.

London, England - Winter 1810

At a time when women were not allowed control over their very existence, Margaret Wentworth lost everything of value to her. Helpless to make any decision without the approval of her guardian, the only option available for any female was obedience. Unless she finds a hero that would champion her cause.

An Unlikely Hero

James Cunningham follows the law, finding answers to otherwise impossible situations. He provides a listening ear, he has a kind soul, and is someone who fights for what he believes in. Unbeknownst to Jamie, the Wentworth/Cunningham families have been intertwined for generations. As this story unfolds, he too is drawn irresistibly into the past to establish hope for the future, as he cares for the families at The Haven.

This story is about the power of family

The Duke and Duchess of Sommerville have taught their children the value of family, loyalty and love. Each of their children have the opportunity to marry for love, and several have. Jamie feels he has found "the one" for him and is willing to move heaven and earth if it means she will be his. This feeling grows every time he sees the tragedy and heartache in Meg's eyes. Just how far will he have to go for her love?

1.0 von 5 Sternen Beware: This Book Ends In A Cliffhanger 18. März 2014

Absolutely no mention of a sequel or series to follow on the Amazon Description Page. This book left us with an unfinished story and NO romance whatsoever. I wasted an entire evening reading this book, anxiously awaiting how the two would finally come together and NOTHING! This is a great example of how not to attract readers. So very disappointed!

LEGACY FROM YESTERYEAR By Victoria Trout and Penelope West
Eighteen year old Margaret Wentworth lost both her parents now with all her heartache only to be told she has to leave for London to live with family who she has never met before. Meeting James Cunningham, son of the Duke of Sommerville is very helpful to Meg and has taken a great liking to her. There is power of family in the novel where no decisions can be made without approvals. The story is set in the 1800 English era where family was prim and proper with values in life. Meg finds a journal in which Serena writes to tell her future heiress of the existence of the jewels hidden around the estate. This journal gives a clue to the location of the first of the jewels with the indication that another clue will be found to assist in the locating of the next jewel. Beautifully written, an engaging storyline and admirable characters. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and recommend it to readers who enjoy love and mystery with flow and excitement, leaving suspense still to be continued. Anna O

5.0 von 5 Sternen As good as any classic you’ll read in this genre. 8. März 2014

If you like historical fiction, there's something for everyone in this book: good period setting, the down and out woman looking for hope in her life, the rich aristocracy, dark secrets in the past, rich and hidden jewels, and all that good juicy stuff that makes a great historical novel. What elevates Trout and West’s book is their writing style & skill in managing characterization and plot.

I found this to be a fast, intense, thrilling, love stroke mystery story. Margaret Wentworth is no 2D character, but instead a complicated, remarkable character, and a very strong female character in a genre that usually draws women as beautiful victims at best. Definitely recommendable.

This is one you should certainly try out.

1.0 von 5 Sternen Very poorly written 24. März 2014

This book is so bad in so many ways. The grammar and spelling are atrocious. The characters are facile and the story inexplicably ends with no plot resolution. I can't believe I wasted my time reading this book -- good thing it was a freebie.
