I checked this book out of the library and have been delighted by it. While I have read individual biographies of many of the leaders mentioned in this book, I found that the way the material was presented and the information contained in it was actually very fresh and comprehensible. The first chapter gives an overview of the Suffrage movement that I found to be very beneficial. And then the history of each leader is well presented and I learned much that I didn't recall or hadn't read previously. After the initial overview of the movement the chapters are devoted to a specific leader. First we are presented with Elizabeth Cady Stanton, whose role I had previously not fully understood until I read this book, then we are presented with the mighty Susan B. Anthony. After her comes Lucy Stone, Anna Howard Shaw, Alice Paul, and then Carrie Chapman Catt with her winning strategy. Each chapter devoted to the specific leader opens with an anecdote about what first got them interested in women's rights and they are each quite compelling. To the point that when I finished reading the book I actually said a prayer of thanks to the Lord for the devotion these women had and how grateful I was for their dedication. For that is one thing that definitely comes across in this book, the suffrage leaders devoted their entire lives to the cause. Many of them not even living to see the fruits of their labor actually come to pass. But as in the words of Susan B. Anthony, they were convinced that "failure is impossible." I heartily recommend this book for pretty much all ages, young adult and up. It is written in a comprehensible style for young adult readers, but also quite informative and interesting for adults. I consider it a must read.
