This is not your grandma's love story of the Old West. This story is well-told in vivid detail that gives you a real feel for the time period. The women who went west were strong and determined and the story of Elizabeth is told as a true woman of the Old West. Survivor. The love story does get steamy and proves that you don't waste time on the run when you find someone. La Desperada doesn't disappoint.

The addition of the award-winning screenplay was a wonderful bonus.

Patricia Burroughs tells a wonderful story with strong characters and a driving plot that will keep you turning pages. I always enjoy her stories and writing.

It's 1881. The setting is the Old West in a time of transition. The Civil War has been won, the Indians have been beaten into submission (almost) and civilization as we know it is beginning to take hold. Sheriffs and their deputies on horseback are in charge of keeping order. They are the sole owners of the law, and dispense rough justice according to how well it pleases them.

Our heroine is Elizabeth, a prim and proper Texas woman from back east who finds herself suddenly widowed after a series of tragic events. She thought she knew the man she married, but there were secrets, many of them. The dark side of her husband Joel's past led to his demise and Elizabeth's need to flee her home.

After a series of unexpected violent events, our genteel frontier woman seeks out help by aiding and abetting an outlaw, ultimately becoming one herself. She must flee, but to where? The outlaw will know. He's very familiar with the deadly use of a gun and knows how to survive on the range. Soon after she springs him from jail, Elisabeth and the outlaw begin a reluctant friendship that turns into love.

Elizabeth discovers that everything she believed to be true and right about her life was just a sham. Boone Coulter, the man with a price on his head, ultimately becomes the only person she can trust. The two desperadoes forge a close bond as they seek out justice and a return to normal life and order.
