I was very disappointed with the Lonely Planet Korea guide book both for its poor organization of information and the content. In order to properly tour any one area of Korea, the reader has to flip all over the book in order to find places to eat, sleep and tour. Moreover, any guidebook which wastes "Places Eat" space referring to "Chicky Chicky Fried Chicken" clearly is missing the point.
In addition, pertinent information such as addresses, cost and hours of operation were missing.
The authors are described in their biographies as hippie, Deadhead, misguided souls. Clearly this has something to do with the poor job they did compiling this book. I'm definitely moving back to Fodors or Eyewitness.

After multitudes of trips around South Korea, my first copy of this book was so trashed from being packed and unpacked into my backpack that I had to order a new one. This book will get used, especially if you are spending a long period of time in-country for traveling or for work.
I've generally gotten to know my way around in my three years in Korea, but I still take my LP wherever I go-- it has provided some real gems from restaurants to tours to shopping.
My only pique with the book is that some of the maps are more general than useful for locating specific sites-- especially back-alley places in locations like Kyungju and Cheju-do. I usually make a point to get a local tourist map [these can usually be gotten cheaply--a few thousand won at most] for comparison.
This book is definitely worth the investment of a twenty-dollar bill or so.

Before I begin my review, I would like to preface by stating that I was born in Seoul and raised there until I was 7. It has been six years since my last visit. The book overall is informative. It's probably the best short reading book for a tourist, which is unfortunate. I found some of the information to be incorrect, such as pronunciations of words and cultural observations. The book also gave me an impression that the recommendations made were given by an unsophisticated traveler. Again, it's easy reading and a good summary.

Granted, no travel book can be 100% complete , but I find myself quite dissapointed at what this Lonely Planet misses: there is no word of Iksan - a beautiful city with the most... Lesen Sie weiter...

must have for backpacking in Korea
