KITCHENAID 3 COOKBOOKS IN 1: PIES & TARTS; CAKES & CUPCAKES; BREADS is a terrific choice for the cook who loves to bake, who has acquired a new stand mixer. It's a big collection of classic recipes for pies, tarts, cakes, cupcakes, and breads that are "made from scratch" (made from flour, sugar, butter, eggs, etc., mixed or beaten in a large bowl). There are no recipes calling for commercial cake/muffin/bread mixes or for grocery-store-refrigerator-case dough or pie crust.
Some of the recipes (e.g., orange-lemon citrus bread) suggest combining ingredients by whisking and beating in a bowl, so can be prepared with or without the stand mixer. A few recipes (e.g., egg bagels) are written for a food processor (another KitchenAid appliance). Some recipes (e.g., blueberry cheesecake muffins, mango citrus pudding cake, crunchy whole grain bread) are best prepared with the stand mixer, because of the amount of mixing or high-speed beating or dough-hook kneading required.
Probably I have recipes for most of these cakes, pies, and breads in other cookbooks. But I love having so many standard favorite recipes (e.g., better baking mix (Bisquick substitute), devil's food cake, whipped-cream-filled chocolate roll, yellow cake, orange cake, black bottom cupcakes, sunshine chiffon cake, banana cream pie, lattice-topped cherry pie, dinner rolls, banana bread, and many more) collected in a single cookbook.
The cookbook is spiral-bound with sturdy hard cardboard covers. The three cookbooks are divided by stiff cardboard tabs. When open, the recipe pages lie completely flat. Each recipe is complete on the left-hand page, and has a full-color, mouth-watering photo of the finished baked item on the facing page. There are 288 pages, including the index.
