I've been through this book cover to cover four times in four days. One pass to admire and sigh at all the beautiful AND functional kitchens Ms. Kellar has compiled. Another to start to identify elements and components I personally like. Then again to try and determine which of those would fit in the space I have to work with--and the personality of my home. I've finally begun to read the accompanying text and study the floor plans, both of which make this much more than just a collection of stunning kitchen photographs. If you're planning to remodel your kitchen or you're building a house and want to design one that fits you and the way you cook, get this book before you meet with a kitchen designer or architect. It will not only help you decide what you want and but also enable you to articulate your vision more clearly to the folks you hire to do the work.

This book has pages of great photos and comprehensive ideas about lay-outs, storage, work areas, break down details on cabinets, counter tops, and all the good things to make a kitchen workable. I read all the details and got great ideas for my very small galley kitchen which most of us have but is not widely featured in this or any books on kitchens! One can always dream, and this book helps even the cramped kitchen owner think of new things for the kitchen.

This is a great all-around book for anyone who is fantasizing about or seriously contemplating renovating their kitchen. The title is just right: this is an IDEA book that goes beyond pretty pictures to give you valuable information about surface options, cabinets, pantries, appliances, and lighting.
The pictures are beautifully produced and give unusually useful shots of a variety of styles of kitchen and living spaces. Detailed floor plans for many of the designs add to the value of thesepictures for the home improver. I found some of the most helpful sections those on cabinet accessories, pantry ideas, and the pros and cons of various countertops. There is also invormation on kitchen accessibility.
I know that this book will change the way you think of your kitchen and what it could be. Knowing about all of the possible options can really help you to create the kitchen of your dreams (if you can afford it! )

I wasn't that impressed.
