Produktbeschreibungen

From Publishers Weekly

Readers who have enjoyed Phillips's writing in the past (Heaven, Texas) will be disappointed by her latest contemporary. In dire straits as a result of her irresponsible lifestyle, Daisy Devreaux is given an ultimatum by her outraged father?jail or an arranged marriage to Alex Markov, a broodingly handsome Russian handpicked by her father to teach Daisy the error of her ways. It's a thin plot that's kept going by a superabundance of sex. In better outings, Phillips's razor sharp wit might keeps things afloat, but there is nothing funny in the mean-spirited and abusive hero.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Suspend your belief and then... 5. Juli 2000
Von Miriam
Format:Taschenbuch
The literary critic (ha!) in me tells me I shouldn't give this 5 stars, but who cares. this was a sweet, I suppose kind of old-fashioned book. The story is quite implausible, and the whole Romanov thing is ridiculous, I think she should have left that out. but anyway, forgetting all that, it's a nice happy ever after story, and you just love reading about how Daisy finds her place with Alex and with everyone else. I've never found any of these books in Ireland, but they seem to be quite popular in Germany

5.0 von 5 Sternen Perfection! 1. September 1999
Format:Taschenbuch
This book was special. I read this book and fell "in love" with the two characters. I felt a particular attachment with the main character Daisy. I felt every disappointment as if I had experienced them myself. I wept through the misunderstandings, frustrations and struggles she experienced (the unfairness of it all!). In the end, I was in awe of her capacity to love/forgive. I was frustrated with Alex's inability to see Daisy for what she was-- truly special. In the end, he won my forgiveness for finally seeing her "specialness". Don't get me wrong, Daisy wasn't perfect in the "sugary" way, rather her strength of character was subtle and endearing.
Its rare, this deep connection to a character or story line. I've wept and enjoyed touching momments in other books, but this was written in a way that somehow I felt I was directly involved in the story.
SEP is a wonderful writer, and she has written some very good books. KISS AN ANGEL is my favorite. The others might be more humorous, this one is touching.

1.0 von 5 Sternen Not her usual standard 5. April 2008
Format:Taschenbuch
This rather early work of SEP does not have the wit of her later novels (as in "Ain't she sweet?")
The author tries too hard to construct a romantic circus flair, together with a lot of hilarious ideas like a male main character (a circus artist) being the secret great-grandson of the last Russian tzar or a female heroine being the soulmate of an old untamed Siberian tiger (yes, you have read correctly. And it does not relate to a member of a football team. A tiger as in an animal.)
Once again the author follows her number-one-principle of the correct development of true love: He does not believe in love, she does (and very much so), but both feel a strong sexual attraction. Finally she loves too much and starts to suffer, so she has to leave and give him a chance to recognize his strong feelings for her. Now he is the one who suffers, has to find her, bring her back and convince her that he really loves her...
Sometimes Susan Elizabeth Phillips creates so funny details and witty dialogues that the reader is happy to ignore that he is served the same lovestory again, but this book is not funny at all.
Furthermore I am not into the theme of dominance and submission which is not really a central theme but very often "hinted at" in this book. (Ladies, you should only read this book if you are secretly dreaming of being commandeered by a strong male...Those of us who prefer a strong-minded savvy heroine are better off with the already mentioned "Ain't she sweet?"!)
There are a lot of better books by this author. Be sure to have read all of them before you waste your time on this one.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Satisfaction Guaranteed 16. Mai 2000
Von amie
Format:Taschenbuch
Welcome to the world of Circus, as Alex Markov takes his new bride, Daisy Devreaux, to live their new life. Oh, not that Daisy choose this new life. Oh, no, she is forced to marry this handsome man or she goes to jail. What can she do anyway? But Alex has a plan for his spoiled bride...a plan that backfires when he realized that Daisy is not only having an angel face but also an angel heart...
The world of circus kinda amazes me. I liked circus myself, especially the trapeze perfomances. And I found myself liking this book sooo much. SEP has done it again. You'll laugh with the characters, share the pain with them, and in the end find the triumph of love...

5.0 von 5 Sternen One of Mrs. Phillips' best! 3. September 1999
Von Ein Kunde
Format:Taschenbuch
Honestly - I didn't want to read this book at first. No matter how much the other readers recommended it, I just didn't want to read a book whose setting was a circus. I ordered most of SEP's other books, but finally I put my doubts aside and ordered this one here, too. And what a surprise! I found myself caught by a touching story that kept me reading all night long untill nearly 4:00 a.m.!! I just HAD to know what would happen to Daisy and Alex. Gosh, I wish I were like Daisy - strong and courageous enough to face her fears. And Alex - at first I didn't like him at all. There was something cold and cruel about him. But, still, he was so lovable in his own way. I was even more surprised by this book since it is the first time that I found mystery and supernatural happenings in one of SEP's books. Daisy's relationship to Sinjun, the tiger, was just breath-taking! Whether you like the circus or not - READ this book!!!! (Dies ist eine Amazon.de an der Uni-Studentenrezension.)

it's by SEP, so I guess it can be quite compelling to read, but in my opinion, the story is just too hairbrained and the main characters aren't really loveable, you just don't care... Lesen Sie weiter...
