This is a great photographic presentation of 64 of the more important fortified churches of the Transylvanian Saxons, printed on high quality glossy thick stock paper. Its layout reminds one of an art album: its contents are in no way crammed - on the contrary, the layout is very lavishly spread out: just one black-and-white picture on every other page with generous white borders alternating with a matching bilingual German-English caption. The quality of the pictures is great, albeit black and white and smaller than the size of the page would have allowed. What I also appreciate greatly is the bilingual introduction which provides a rather detailed outline of the history of the Transylvanian Saxons, their society, culture, and fortified places of worship. The book is rather more artistic than it is utilitarian. Great book to have if you are at all interested in Transylvania, medieval architecture, or the history of the Transylvanian Saxons.
Pictures could have been larger - there's a lot of blank space throughout the book.
