The biographical text is accompanied by fact-lists detailing the line of succession, Prime Ministers, military campaigns and Commonwealth countries. There are special sections highlighting important aspects of British history, such as the Wars of the Roses and the American War of Independence, and a study of the present Royal residences. Commentary on and analysis of the "annus horribilis" is included, together with recent photographs of the present Royal Family.

I thoroughly enjoyed Delderfield's book on the kings and queens of England and Great Britain. He's laid out the geneology in a flowing, concise way, offering tidbits of fact for each monarch. Sometimes sounding almost gossipy, Delderfield knows his subject. The photographs made a nice counterpoint to the prose, giving me a feel for the reality of all mentioned.

A good book for a condensed overview of English royalty.

I originally purchased the paperback edition of this book and have regularly used it as a quick reference source for English history. This version is larger and thus is more suited to a bookshelf than carrying in a bag for quick reference. There are many more illustrations and photos than the paperback including quite a few in colour. Many of the sections have been expanded, especially those relating to the current monarch. I think either of these books would be a good basic text, not just on the British Monarchy but also British History in general.
