What readers are saying:
"P. J. Alderman is the next Lisa Jackson"
"a fast-paced mystery and an excellent read"
"a small town romantic thriller set against the backdrop of the sea"
"...one could almost step off the pages and right into [Astoria, Oregon]...The powerful images offer readers a glimpse of life as a fisherman"

Description:

Something is spooking the citizens of the quaint seaside village of Astoria...

Kaz Jorgensen is used to fear--the anxiety of negotiating treacherous currents as she captains her family's fishing trawlers, the terrifying nightmares of the day she almost lost her life on the river. But now a friend is dead, an arsonist has set the Anna Marie ablaze, and her twin brother is missing, accused of arson and murder.

The new fire chief, Michael Chapman, is coping with personal loss that nearly destroyed him. Right after moving to town, he finds himself dealing with a secretive, insular fishing community that views him as an outsider. And after rumors circulate raising questions about his most recent arson case in his prior job, he can't afford to get involved with the sister of a suspect. But when someone takes a shot at her, he realizes that whatever happens, he can't allow another woman to die because of him.

Reviews:
"P.J. Alderman's ...characters are very real and kind of rough around the edges, which is what makes them so wonderful to get to know... Alderman... paints a wonderful picture of the lives and trials of the fishermen born into a life aboard the trawlers and have to circumnavigate treacherous waters." --Fresh Fiction
"Alderman introduces diverse characters, mixes them up with plots upon subplots, and sets it all against the backdrop of small-town Astoria, Oregon. Better still, she makes it work." --Amy Wolff Sorter, Reviewer, Amazon USA, UK, & Germany
"P.J. Alderman writes incredible, powerful scenes...with a romance, a well-crafted plot combined with suspenseful twists and turns, A KILLING TIDE will keep you up all night." --Debbie Wiley, Reviewer

"P.J. Alderman brings this sleepy town to vivid life. The powerful images portrayed in A KILLING TIDE offer readers a glimpse of life as a fisherman and creates a very real sense of respect for both their hardiness and courage." --Debbie Wiley, Reviewer

An excellent page turner! 22. April 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I loved this book. From the time that I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. The characters just reached out and grabbed me. This author has done a wonderful job with the plot, creating a strong romantic suspense page turner that won't quit. The heroine, Kaz Jorgenson, is strong and valiant and cares about her family, dropping everything to return to her hometown Astoria to help her twin brother when he needs her. She's paired to Michael Chapman, the new fire chief in Astoria, a man who left scandal and suspicion behind in his old life. He doesn't want to get involved with Kaz but can't deny the attraction. Michael is a strong, intelligent lead. Together these two take us on a wonderful journey that make me care and root for them both. A phenomenal whodunit!

Loved it! 22. April 2011
Von E. Ramer
Format:Kindle Edition
It's hard to believe this is a first book, it's so good. Alderman did everything right and I didn't want to stop reading. Kaz Jorgensen takes time out from her successful business in San Francisco to return home to Astoria, Oregon to help save her twin brother's fishing business. Then her twin's best friend is killed, he's the suspect and nowhere to be found. Kaz can't believe he did it, and sets out to prove it.

Michael Chapman, the town's new fire chief, is a former top arson investigator from Boston. He came to Astoria to escape memories of his fiancée dying in a fire set by a revengeful arsonist. Now he's falling for another woman whose life might be in danger, and he'll do anything to save her.

The characters come to life with strengths and flaws and layers. Alderman peels off the layers sloooowly, keeping the reader in page-turning suspense. The description is evocative, so well done I could see it in my mind. The romantic tension builds naturally, from a spark to a flame. And the writing is brilliant. I'd love to read more stories about Astoria and the other characters in the book.

A Realistic Female Lead Character 13. Oktober 2011
Von Abraham2626 - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
So many other reviews have already given an in depth synopsis of the story, so I'll skip that and just tell you what really impressed me with A KILLING TIDE. So often female characters follow a certain cliche and are quite boring to read, but P.J. Alderman avoids these pitfalls with Kiz Jorgensen. Alderman has managed to create realistic character without taking the easy way out with simple minded melodrama. Sometimes stories with female lead characters can be rather soap opera-ish, probably because writers or publishers think that this sort of story telling will appeal to a female audience. I find this attitude rather ignorant, but it does sell books, so what do I really know. What I like about P.J. Alderman's style is that she avoids this pitfall. This is not just a "chick book" guys will dig it too. In fact I like it enough that it has now taken a spot in my top 5 recommended books from the kindle store.

Here are my top 5 recomendations, in no particular order.

1.A KILLING TIDE by P.J. Alderman
2.ARNIE'S LAST KILL by Aleister Page
3.THE AFFAIR by Lee Child
4.A DOZEN DEADLY ROSES by Kathy Bennett
5.ABDUCTED by T.R. Ragan

A Solid Mystery 4. September 2011
Von Shannon Walker - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I prefer mystery novels above most other genres and as an English teacher and closet author, I tend to have high standards. The plot line was relatively strong, and although I did figure out who the bad "guy" was fairly early in the story, I enjoyed how the author wrapped things up. The story flowed well with nice character development and a toned-down romantic angle. (Too many mystery novels try to use romance to give strength to a weak plot but this one doesn't.) I would have enjoyed more specific background on the area rather than generalities.

Great Mystery... Fun Read! 25. Juni 2011
Von George Bourassa - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
When I was a boy I used to spend some summers in Astoria Oregon at my Grandparents house. When a friend came across this book and recommended it to me I was excited to see that someone had set a mystery novel there. It's such a charming little town set in a fantastic area, and PJ Alderman does a magnificent job of capturing the charm of the place and the people in a great mystery novel.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book and am looking forward to starting in on another of Alderman's tonight. I notice in the other reviews that this is a first novel. Amazing! Can't wait to see where it all goes from here! I've gotten attached to my new friends in "Tide" and hope to see them again... *ahem*.... Mr. Alderman.... *hint* *hint*
