Kick-Ass is a thoroughly enjoyable comic based on a similar premise as the legendary "Watchmen": what if there really were people dressing up as superheroes and trying to fight crime?Of course, the similarities do not go much further than that, so comparing the two beyond that point would amount to the proverbial "apples and oranges". Instead, I'd like to contrast it with its excellent film adaptation, which was supposedly in the works before the final issues were even completed. The comic is decidedly more cynical than its (otherwise very faithful) adaptation, yet surprisingly, I found that in this case, a more upbeat ending would not have spoiled the mood or strained the credibility. All in all, I award Kick-Ass top marks for being a fast-paced and tongue-in-cheeky read.
