I am a long-time Keith Haring fan and have purchased many of his books over the years. So many that I thought I had seen it all. Wrong! This book covers his very early years of making art and includes many early sketchbook pages, works on paper, collages, stills from experimental videos, photocopied flyers, finishing with (still raw) but more formal works from the 1980 P.S. 122 show and pieces from 81 and 82 that start to resemble the more polished Keith Haring work that is about to come. There are also an assortment of snapshots of Keith sprinkled throughout the book. There is very little text in the book which is fine with me. If you are a die-hard Haring fan this is enjoyable. If you are new to his work this is not the place to start. This is a paperback, the dimensions are smaller than I'd like for an art book but they enhance the sketchbook/notebook/journal feel. For those who love Keith Haring this is a welcome addition to the library and was a joy to see. Highly recommended.
