Although it's marred by a somewhat dry writing style, this account of Julie Krone, a top jockey in the almost exclusively male racing world, will be inspiring to horse lovers and athletes alike. Color and black-and-white photos range from Krone's early days as a five-year-old county-fair competitor to her victory in the 1993 Belmont Stakes, which made her the first female jockey to win a Triple Crown race. The information seems to be drawn from newspaper and magazine accounts, but is not documented. While extolling their subjects' virtues, both authors show that the road to fame is not always smooth. Full-color and black-and-white photographs, many of them action shots, enhance the texts. A chart of career highlights concludes each book. If you are a girl who loves horses, racing, or wants to be a jockey, then this is the book for you! This book doesn't get way deep in the story of Julie's life so the book bores you to death, but it stays on top and basically outlines the goods and bads of Julie's extremely successful life. It is a great book for pictures and information. If you have read this book, or were going to read it, then I suggest you also look into getting Riding For My Life, a biography that goes a little deeper into Julie's heart and soul. I love this book, and I reccomend it to anyone who loves Julie Krone, but when I say that, I might as well be saying That I reccomend this book to everyone!

What a delightful, inbspiring story of a little lady primed to meet her heart's desire! Written in down to earth expressions makes it a good little book for an afternoon's relaxing read. Not a big book, but an inspiring one. Would be wonderful for preteen and teen girls.
