Juice: Recipes for Juicing, Cleansing, and Living Well

As an amateur juicer, I have juiced off and on. Different times in my life I have been more motivated than others, for the most part life gets so busy that it is pretty much out of sight out of mind or a serious lack of planning. Juice: Recipes for Juicing, Cleansing, and Living Well puts those excuses right out the door. The physical aspects of the book being hard cover and small make it easy to store in the kitchen, while the content of the book, well-organized and divided into sections throughout 12 chapters and multiple resources in the back, make this book a wonderful addition to your kitchen bookshelf.

Another aspect of the text that I enjoyed was the option for blending instead of juicing. The authors describe the difference and reference their options for the best blending tools and ingredients. One big discovery for me is the chia seed. I had heard they were good for you but I had no idea how good. The information provided about many ingredients is included.

I really enjoy the learning process of what ingredients really do for one’s body as well as the expert advice about different juicing machines, so a person can make an informed decision. The book has definitions and descriptions throughout which put amateurs such as me at ease with the process of making healthy changes. The text is packed full of recipes making a variety of flavors and juice types from milky drinks to flavored waters and the one many of us have trouble stomaching, or should I say tasting, the green drinks. Really it is all a matter of getting over the look and the misconceived ideas of what green juices will taste like. Through some of these recipes, I have overcome my own obstacles in this area. I really enjoy juicing and making smoothies and these recipes make it easier and easier to follow through with a healthy and tasty habit!

4.0 von 5 Sternen More than a recipe book! 22. August 2014
Von Cheryl H. - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

This book is an interesting way to bring healthier foods into your daily life. It’s effectively organized into three parts: juicing, recipes, and cleansing. The table of contents is very helpful in navigating the book, and gives a good sense of what to expect from each section. It’s more than a recipe book. It’s an information guide on how to choose a juicer, what enzymes and nutrients are in fresh pressed juices, the physical (internal and external) benefits of juicing and cleansing, and so much more.

The recipes are easy to prepare, and don’t contain a laundry list of ingredients. The practical sections cover anything from sweet to savory, roots to fruits, and citrus to milk. The back of the book even gives measurement conversions for those who use metric or Celsius scales.

I haven’t tried the savory recipes yet, but some of my favorites that I’ve prepared so far are the Chia Almond Smoothie, (delicious, although I omitted the mango) Almond Milk, (with a bonus recipe for Almond meal cookies) and the easy-peasy Watermelon Mint fruit juice.

The quality of this book is excellent. The hard cover is sturdy and smooth, and JUICE is clearly seen on the spine when upright on a bookshelf. The pages have a semi-gloss feel and there are full-page illustrations are on nearly every-other page. I love recipe books with full-page photo spreads! The illustrations are inspiring, and surprisingly enough, the recipes I’ve tried look comparable.

I found the extra little tidbits, such as the worth of watermelon rinds, fascinating. The rinds have anti-fungal properties, and once chopped, they can be used in your juicer to create a mild, tasty drink that produces antioxidant effects.

If you are curious about juicing, or cleansing, or just want fun juice, milk, or smoothie recipes, this is an inspiring (and healthy) way to get on track. Highly recommended.

I also loved how they show you what to do with left over pulp!

Carrot Bread
As you will notice once you start getting your juice on, juicing means pulp. A lot of pulp can build up when you extract the juice from your produce. The amount depends on the type of juicer you have, how much produce you are using, and how many times you run it through the machine. When you’re finished juicing, don’t just toss all that yummy pulp! It is full of nutrition and fiber, and it can be incorporated into some delicious recipes, like this wonderful carrot bread.
Makes 6 to 8 servings (about 9 pieces)
11⁄2 cups carrot pulp
4 organic eggs
1⁄4 cup melted organic butter or ghee (clarified butter)
1 cup coconut flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1⁄2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
Juice of 1⁄2 small lemon
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon maple syrup
1⁄2 cup walnuts (optional)
2 tablespoons raisins (optional)
Preheat the oven to 325˚F and place a tray of water in the bottom of the oven. Line an 8 by 8-inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving a generous trim.
In a mixing bowl, stir together the carrot pulp, eggs, butter, flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg and set aside.
In a small bowl, stir together the lemon juice, vinegar, vanilla, and maple syrup. Add this to the carrot mixture and stir until well combined. Stir in the walnuts and raisins.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean, 50 to 70 minutes.
Allow the bread to cool in the baking dish for about 10 minutes. Remove the bread from the dish and let it cool on a wire rack. Slice and serve warm or at room temp-erature. The bread will keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.

This book is a wonderful book for beginner juicers or those that love to juice.

As a person who would like to know more about juicing but hasn't ever done it, I was very excited to get this book. I appreciated how thorough the authors were in explaining things. There are charts and pictures that help the readers understand the process and benefits of juicing better.

This book not only has recipes for juicing but how to even pick a juicer and the pros and cons with each one. This is a great book for those who want more than just recipes to help them get started to being healthier. There are many other health tips as well.

The book have 8 chapters of recipes for things from greens to almond milk. And not just one recipe but many per chapter. There is also a section on cleansing and recipes to go with that.

This is definitely a book I will be using as I begin to learn more about juicing.

I highly recommend this book to others.

I received this book free from Bloggingforbooks.org in exchange for my honest review.

MY REVIEW
. It’s a great book to get you started. It breaks down the benefits of juicing, how to do a cleanse safely and properly, also and most importantly for me, breaks down the pros and cons of the different types of juicers.
They break down the chapters by ingredients: greens, roots, citrus and then add smoothie recipes and also other cleansing foods Use these recipes as a guide and once you get comfortable, start experimenting. Every ingredient is available at your local grocery store. No hard to find items. I enjoy juicing and want to do it more often.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to juice!
I pray, Carly, that God will bless you and keep you all the days of your life. In Jesus Name Amen.

ABOUT AUTHOR
Pressed Juicery co-founder Carly De Castro, graduated with a B.A. from Kenyon College, and got a job working as an entertainment publicist in New York City, where she found it virtually impossible to balance a lifestyle of late night dinners and work events without feeling completely drained by the end of each week. Taking her interest in health and vitality to the next level, she enrolled in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and began to put her day job on the back burner. In learning about every facet of holistic health, from raw food to macrobiotics and more, Carly did the math and concluded that the benefits of every program multiplied when you added one component: fresh juice.
Carly's juicer had become her biggest ally in the battle against everything from illness, fatigue, weight gain, and even depression. As long as she was juicing, she could indulge in the foods she loved and had energy to devote to work and fun. Whether committing to a daily dose of vegetable juice or a week-long cleanse, it was clear that she was onto something, but realized that most of the people around her were still living in a perpetual food coma. She wanted to teach them what she'd learned and how to incorporate the information in a realistic and enjoyable way. After graduating as a Certified Holistic Health Coach with a degree from the American Association of Drugless Practitioners, Carly traveled to India to learn traditional medicine. When she returned to the U.S., she decided it was time to move back to her hometown, Los Angeles, partner with her two close friends, and devote herself full time to her passion.
