das Buch ist schön aufgemacht und zeigt ganz wundervolle, sehr inspirierende Projkete.
Es ist bei uns allerdings eher als Inspirationsquelle denn als Vorlagenbuch zu nutzen, denn die meisten verwendeten Produkte sind entweder Einzelstücke oder aber in Europa nicht zu haben. Selbst in den Fällen, wo der US Hersteller nach Deutschland liefert, sind die Versandkosten so hoch, dass es keinen Spaß macht.
Trotzdem, ein empfehlenswertes Buch.

Gorgeous designs, with a catch

First, it must be said that the designs in this book are stunning. Gorgeous pieces with unique color combinations that are just a knockout. Really pretty stuff.
That said, I was disappointed for two reasons, which lowered it to 3 stars. One is that there's no real technical explanations so a beginner would likely have trouble. I'm not a beginner, but in this, there's really nothing new for me to learn. It's basic stringing practices, when normally I'd like to learn something new or be challenged.
The biggest disappointment is that she uses STUNNING and gorgeous beads and pendants. What's wrong with that? Nothing, except that after buying the book, you have to get access to these pieces which are not easily found. The majority of components are from small artists--good luck trying to find something even remotely similar. I went to some of the websites of the bead designers, and was unable to afford or find what similar options they had.
Thing is, if you had those gorgeous beads or pendants to start with, you wouldn't need instructions...they are lovely on their own. So I felt that too much of what was beautiful in this was dependent on having those as well. I may adapt some of the color schemes, but that's about the most I can get out of the book

I wasn't really sure what to expect with this book because I really hadn't heard much about it. I was pleasantly surprised by its depth and subject. Let me explain. It would have been easy for Heather to do a bunch of stringing projects with her beads as the focal. As lovely as her beads and jewelry designs are, for me to buy a book, it has to have more substance than that. Heather accomplished this through featuring Art Beads by various artists in a variety of media, basing the theme of the entire book on inspiration from nature (woodlands, gardens, and sea), peeks at her sketchbook and design process, tips for creating with colors from nature, and interviews with some of the creators of the art beads she uses in her designs.
Included in the book are more than 30 designs. Some designs include brief instructions for matching earrings or bracelet or a variation for creating an entirely different look. She also includes a sidebar for every single design explaining her thought process, inspiration, and design choices. It's kind of like crawling inside her brain. Photos are clear and include some step by step photos. The layout for the instructions is different than any other book I recall. The first page contains materials list and explains creating the components step by step along with photos of the components. On the 2nd page of the layout is a nearly full page photo of the finished piece with numbers pointing to the location of that particular step.
One of my favorite things about each layout is the inclusion of whose art beads she has used for that particular design immediately under the title of each piece. I personally get frustrated when art beads are used and the artist of the bead is not mentioned. Not only are the artists listed under the title of each piece, but at the end of the book is a very detailed list for each separate design in the book and also a comprehensive list of artists and their websites.
Overall it is a beautiful book filled with inspiration including tips on how to find inspiration.

Author Heather Powers is an intuitive designer. Last year at the BeadandButton Show I had the extreme pleasure of bumping into Heather in a food line. We ended up having an unexpected lunch together. She is as lovely and thoughtful in person as you might imagine she is from looking at her work. She proudly shared a picture of the cover of her book, which was not quite out yet. I was sold! I knew that I'd have to pick up a copy as soon as possible! When my copy arrived, I read it from cover-to-cover, which is something that I rarely do with jewelry-making books. The designs and ideas in this book are a feast for the eyes and a comfort to the soul. Drawing inspiration from nature is certainly not a new concept but Heather's unique view makes the subject matter feel fresh.
