Great fun, and not too simple or too hard 14. November 2001
Von Robin Pain - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
I'm a self taught amateur who can just about crash through a hymn at about 1/4 speed third or fourth time around sight-reading-wise, but, these arrangements I can play (apart from the left hand tenths)given about two months per tune, (doing two or three at once) because they don't seem to get boring even after the 100th attempt. There is enough "guts" in the arrangements to hold my attention long enough for me to learn them.
They are particularly "easy" to memorise, that's the trick and also they are short.
If you don't want too simple or grindingly chromatically brainy but do want the "open" clean sounds of happier times from honest nostalgia to gutsy-slow-blues to brain-twisting-makes-ya-grin-boogie then this is for you!

"Brain-twisting-makes-ya-grin-boogie", for pennies on the dollar! 13. Februar 2013
Von Frank Beeckman - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
"Brain-twisting-makes-ya-grin-boogie". That's what the other reviewer stated. I like this quote, because the boogie does make me grin, at times when life hits me over the head with the blues.

good songs to challenge 2. April 2013

I find this book worth the price. The music in is not easy, and takes consistent effort, to get to a skilled level of performance. I'm older now, and have to re-learn what I knew years ago. It is just plain fun to work on this kind of music. I find it interesting & it cheers me up.

It might be helpful if the book had some practical exercises mixed in, like in the book on stride, swing, blues, boogie. But those who wrote this music made it interesting, and I like their style.

After I get better (DV) at playing these songs, I'll have a higher rating for the book.
