I ran across this book two years ago at a 2nd Hand book store. The pentad and some of the supporting characters appear very reminisicent of P N Dedeauxs work in Tender Buns and 'The Nothing Things'.
It was a good whimsical bdsm fantasy but the gang assault on the Librarian Jane by some punks who were holding incriminatinting photos of her neice were kind of hard to take. Another reason this seems like Dedeaux's work, is that in the end the female lead decides she enjoys submiting and receiving corporal punishments.
Another strange thing about this story was its setting, Mello never established if it was in post world war II Canada or the Pacific Northwest of the United States. I suspect the latter!
