I had doubts about purchasing this book. There weren't any reviews and the excerpt I read was basically: After several miscarriages the woman she believes to be her husband Jack's mistress, Karen, pays Rachel a visit. Karen says she is pregnant with Jack's baby. Something which, she points out, Rachel is obviously not capable of giving him. She also tells Rachel that Jack wants a divorce.
I've found, from past experience, Anne Mather's "heroes" can be real jerks. But I figured if I bought the book and Jack turned out to be the jerk he sounded like I had no one to blame but myself. I was pleasantly surprised.
The real story in this book was that of two people who loved each other deeply and wanted to have a child together. Each thought the other had to have a baby to make them happy. Sadly, they didn't communicate this to each other which led to a complete misunderstanding. Enter a slightly unbalanced and delusional woman and they almost lost everything.
My nephew and his wife tried for years to have a baby. After four miscarriages and two surgeries she finally gave birth to Gabriel, our miracle baby. I saw the heartache and disappointment they suffered over the years and I saw the same with Jack and Rachel. Fortunately, in both cases the love of two people for each other was strong enough to survive anything.
I would definitely recommend this book.
