A chance worth taking! 9. August 2006
Von mahikahn - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
I had doubts about purchasing this book. There weren't any reviews and the excerpt I read was basically: After several miscarriages the woman she believes to be her husband Jack's mistress, Karen, pays Rachel a visit. Karen says she is pregnant with Jack's baby. Something which, she points out, Rachel is obviously not capable of giving him. She also tells Rachel that Jack wants a divorce.

I've found, from past experience, Anne Mather's "heroes" can be real jerks. But I figured if I bought the book and Jack turned out to be the jerk he sounded like I had no one to blame but myself. I was pleasantly surprised.

The real story in this book was that of two people who loved each other deeply and wanted to have a child together. Each thought the other had to have a baby to make them happy. Sadly, they didn't communicate this to each other which led to a complete misunderstanding. Enter a slightly unbalanced and delusional woman and they almost lost everything.

My nephew and his wife tried for years to have a baby. After four miscarriages and two surgeries she finally gave birth to Gabriel, our miracle baby. I saw the heartache and disappointment they suffered over the years and I saw the same with Jack and Rachel. Fortunately, in both cases the love of two people for each other was strong enough to survive anything.

I would definitely recommend this book.

Awful 19. Dezember 2007

I've read and enjoyed some of Anne Mather's work, but I couldn't find anything good about this book. I didn't really care if Jack and Rachel worked out their problems, and on top of that I found the book to be very sexist. The problems that are thrown their way (infidelity and infertility) are dealt with in shallow and childish manner.

There are no admirable women in this book. Rachel's "friend" is a bitter, jealous woman who is so rude that I lost respect for Rachel for not cutting her out of her life. Jack's mother seems to think that it's okay to hide the fact that the woman suspected of being Jack's mistress has come out to visit him when he's on vacation from her daughter-in-law. Rachel herself comes across as a shrill idiot, who is completely blind to her husband's health problems.

There's a subplot involving the psycho mistress (where she attempts to kill Rachel!) that's completely dropped. Apparently attempted murder is no big deal.

The dialogue is horrendous, there's so much double-talk that the characters were incomprehensible most of the time. It felt like they weren't even in the same room while speaking to each other. By the time this book ended I was just happy to be done with it. If you have a chance to read it, don't.

Not bad, not great- forgettable, but not awful 30. August 2007
Von Dora - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
This story was a step above the usual topics covered in Harlequin- those being, two people meet and fall into bed within 24 hrs.

The two main characters, and estranged husband and wife, were understandable enough, but the presence of a nutty, pointless woman claiming to be pregnant with the hero's baby, ruined what could have been a book worthy of a 5-star rating.
