Perfekte und sehr strukturierte Einführung in das Thema. Empfehlenswert für Personen, welche sich innert kürzester Zeit in Jira einarbeiten möchten.

Can be a true Time-saver. 14. Januar 2014
Von Unix Lists - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
Nothing against Atlassian, but I personally found their Online Documentation to be very good but also difficult to navigate. Perhaps it has more to do with the Confluence Wiki format which I don't personally prefer. While this book is a few versions behind, in general it offers good explanations of the relationships between various Jira-centric terms/ideas (Screens, Schemes, Issues, Workflows, Issue Workflow Schemes, etc).

These can be very confusing to understand if you are new to Jira or find yourself newly-responsible for setting up or Configuring it. The thing to note is that it is an 'Essentials' book, and as such is pretty elemental. For me, the e-book worked but you might prefer hardcopy.

Essential book to start your journey with JIRA 30. Mai 2013
Von TechTime - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
With the abundance of documentation provided by Atlassian itself on all their products and JIRA in particular, it's hard to come up with the book that offers any extra value to the reader.

Jira 5.2 Essentials filters down some of the overwhelming aspects of JIRA setup and concentrates on the detailed review of the backbone functionality, such as workflows, issue management, security and reporting. Book also touches on quite a good selection of existing plugins and extensions available on Atlassian Marketplace.

Personally, I would love to see more on the way Greenhopper can be used with some real world scenarios, especially when it comes to estimates (the ever interesting debate on point vs hours).

Book is well structured and content is arranged in the nice and intuitive way, where most of the chapters can be read on their own, as a reference material.

Good update 10. Mai 2013
Von Vedette Bianciotti - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
This book is an update to a previous edition and most if not all of the major updates from Jira 4 to 5 have been included. Screenshots, installation changes and general workflow.

An improvement over the last title is the inclusion of GreenHopper and agile development. That said, this could be a little longer but is a nice start and a good place to begin before jumping to the docs and tutorials around the web.

Overall, very good book on Jira and one worth having around the office especially for the newer members of a team who may not have used Jira lots.

Excellent Reference 20. August 2013
Von Robert Brodie IV - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
JIRA 5.2 Essentials provides thorough coverage for both the JIRA user and administrator. The book begins by clearly explaining the architecture and installation process for JIRA (On Windows). From there, it goes through what "Projects", "Issues", and "Fields" are. Once you get past the basics, every corner of JIRA is explored with examples and screenshots.

We've been running on JIRA since 5.0, and it has been great to us. It continues to solve project management issues and we would recommend it to any organization. This book should be on the desk of any user or administrator of JIRA. Do keep in mind that it is behind by a full release. With that, I do not feel that JIRA's structure and concepts have changed significantly enough to keep anyone from purchasing this book.

Disclosure: I was provided a reviewer's copy.

A comprehensive guide for JIRA users and administrators 27. Juni 2013
Von Danielle - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format: Taschenbuch
This book covers all the essentials for people to get started with JIRA. From overall JIRA architecture, detailed installation steps, to setting up workflow and securing JIRA, JIRA users and administrators will find what they need in this book. It is especially worth mentioning a cohesively written Chapter 6 on "Workflows and Business Processes" should help readers grasp JIRA workflows so they can create new or adapt existing workflows for their business needs.

For advanced JIRA users, the book offers something new too. There are helpful tips and resources, such as examples of plugins to extend out-of-box workflows or to add useful custom fields. If you are familiar with JIRA but are new to JIRA 5, the book highlights what's new.

The book is written in a way that makes it easy to follow. The author uses visualization to illustrate the potentially confusing concepts and their relations e.g. how fields and screens work together.

The book may be long for some because it covers so much, however it is a good reference book. For anyone in charge of training others in the company to use and configure JIRA, this book can serve as a good base and provide a framework for training sessions.
