Kurzbeschreibung

Despite the age-old saying, individuals everywhere still have a hard time realizing that it’s not all about them. Robin Dreeke uses his research and years of work in the field of interpersonal relations and behavior to help readers focus on building relationships with others in “It’s Not All About Me: The Top Ten Techniques for Building Quick Rapport with Anyone”.

As the head of the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Program within the Counterintelligence Division, Dreeke has used the techniques listed in “It’s Not All About Me” with skilled professionals within the FBI as well as with sales professionals, educators and individuals across the country and world. He knows the information provided will apply to business professionals of all sectors, those just entering the workforce and those leading companies.

“It’s Not All About Me” offers readers a look into the human mind, explaining how it really works. From reading body language to massaging egos in order to learn more information, Dreeke provides techniques he’s tested and mastered when it comes to building rapport with others.

In some aspects, Dreeke’s “It’s Not All About Me” is about the individual and his wants, goals, desires and dreams. The 10 techniques covered in this guide will help readers achieve their goals by treating others well and placing communal wants and needs above individual ones. Dreeke believes the short and simple nature of his guide to building rapport makes the points easy to understand and adapt to one’s life.

** Warning, the content of this book is so effective that the reader should think carefully about how it is used. Dreeke does not endorse or condone the malicious use of these skills. **

Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende

Robin Dreeke is in charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s elite Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program (BAP). Although Robin always had aspired to become a great leader, he realized from his time at the United States Naval Academy and in the United States Marine Corps that leadership was much more than just telling people what to do: a great leader uses interpersonal skills to influence, rather than command, others. As a commander in charge of over 200 recruits and 16 drill instructors at Parris Island, South Carolina, Robin learned the fundamentals of leadership and influence. Upon entering service in the FBI in 1997, Robin was assigned to the FBI’s New York field office where he was tasked to recruit spies and confidential human sources in the agency’s efforts to thwart the effort of our country’s adversaries. Along his journey, Robin was accepted as a field assessor for the BAP and received advanced training and experience in the area of social psychology and the practical application of the science behind relationship development. Robin’s remarkable journey began as a 1992 graduate of the United States Naval Academy and former U. S. Marine Corps Officer. He has studied interpersonal relations for the past 24 years of his government service. Through observations of nonverbal behavior, use of the Personal Discernment Inventory, the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, and his own unique techniques, Robin has built highly effective tools for all aspects and stages of interpersonal communication. For over fifteen years, Robin has applied and taught his tools and techniques for the FBI as a member and Chief of the Counterintelligence Division's elite Behavioral Analysis Program. Robin has combined all these tools and techniques and created a one-of-a-kind formula for success with people. Today, Robin is a recognized expert, author, and gifted lecturer in the art of interpersonal communication. These skills are used every day in leadership, sales, human resources, and all relationships, both business and personal.

2.0 von 5 Sternen Do not buy this book if you can help it 14. Mai 2014

I guess if you really need to learn these techniques and you don't have a lot of time (it's only 96 pages in big font) it might be useful as a general guideline, but if you expect to really get a grasp on the top ten techniques to build quick rapport, you should read proper psychological literature.
It seems to be less about clear instructions and explanations and more about amusing anecdotes from the author's life which are supposed to serve as an example. I am sorry, but unless I am a middle aged man with a wife and two kids working in the FBI force these anecdotes only serve as mediocre entertainment. I can see what point he intends to make with these stories from his life, but with a title like that it is a bit annoying that all the author seems to talk about is himself.
In general I appreciate examples to illustrate a point, but if one chapter contains half a page of explanation of a certain technique and the following five pages are just about a guy who did this specific thing in that specific situation with his awesome yet specific skill set it's just tedious to read. And for a reading experience to get tedious when it only is 96 pages long speaks for itself.

I am really disappointed, but I rated two stars due to the fact that the author added a couple of exercises at the end of the book. That is a step in the right direction, but it is, unfortunately, too little too late.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Highly recommended book and easy-to-apply techniques 7. November 2011
Von C Lewis - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
As a communications instructor, I continue to look for information to share with students that will help them become even more effective in their relationships at work, home, and with friends. This book has positively impacted my ability to begin conversations with anyone and to develop rapport with people in all levels of my organization, as well as those in my personal life. I find myself consciously implementing the techniques he recommends and sharing my own communication success stories with family and friends. Today, effective communication skills are a top priority in every field, and this book offers practical examples anyone can learn to apply. This is a must-read book that is easy to understand (great anecdotes!) and that will help you realize just how easy it is to establish and maintain connections with anyone.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A Perfect Workbook for all your communcations 8. November 2011

I do not write many reviews for books but I felt compelled to write a review on this book. I have only known Robin for a short period of time but have learned so much from him. The team at social-engineer.org has had him on the podcast a few times and each time I have learned something new.

When he told me that he was going to write a book documenting his steps to building rapport I knew right away that this information would be valuable for social engineers, sales people, managers, every day people... heck any one that can read and has to interact with another human being.

I don't want to recap everything but let me give you some highlights to the book. Technique two is my favorite as it discusses using nonverbals. Robin's simple approach and key reminders makes this very complex topic easy to understand.

Probably the most important topic in the book (in my opinion) is Technique 5 - Ego Suspension. If this is the only point you walk away from after reading this book you would still be light years ahead of the masses.

Robin doesn't just give you the years of experience and life skills he has learned in those pages but he packed the book with 5 amazing practice exercises. Each of the exercises will challenge you to put the skills he taught you in the book to task. That makes this a work book for your communications. One that I am sure you will have dog-eared in no time.

Another valuable aspect to the book is that Robin gives you so many stories and not just the stories that make him look like a pro... but he actually goes into his failures. He uses them to teach us lessons on how to and how NOT to do each of the principles he discusses.

This book is not just a book for security professionals, it is not just a book for sales people - it is really a book for all people. If you are looking for a good read that will enhance your life this is the book you are looking for.

5.0 von 5 Sternen The Blue Print For Improving Your Communications 29. Dezember 2011
Von Michael Allen - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I have read so many titles and yet I have never taken the time to write a review. But after reading this one I decided to change that.

This was a very interesting read. The techniques discussed are very practical and can be applied to any situation. As stated in another review, I too enjoyed technique number 5 - Ego suspension. It is in fact one of the hardest things to accomplish.

I also enjoyed technique number 8 - Connect with quid pro quo. Here the author aptly reminds us that human beings are genetically coded to reciprocate gifts.

Prior to reading this book I had not paid much attention to technique number 1 - establishing artificial time constraints. But as the author points out it can be such an effective technique.

I was introduced to technique number 2, the use of accommodating nonverbals while reading Christopher Hadnagy's - Social engineering: The Art of Human Hacking. As a side note that title is a MUST read. Ok so back to the business at hand. I was again reminded of the powerful effect of this technique. The examples used by the author were very effective at driving the point home. He takes you through the stages someone goes though when they are assessing a situation and how use of the technique can help put the individual at ease. Absolutely fascinating !!!

In the end, it is an awesome read. You will have a hard time putting this one down. I bought this over the holidays based on a tweet I saw. And I am glad I did. The "war stories" that accompany each technique will keep you wanting more.

Great job Robin.

2.0 von 5 Sternen If you're looking for advanced socializing techniques, look elsewhere. 30. Dezember 2013
Von Eric Baumet - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I am in sales, and I purchased this book in hopes that it would assist me with day to day encounters with prospects and customers. If you have similar reasons for buying this book, I'm sorry, but you should get something else.

All 10 of the techniques listed within this book are designed very well to bring someone who is socially inept into the real world. It is outlined like a workbook and clearly walks you through process initiating and keeping basic conversations, for absolutely nothing more than the sake of just having a good conversation. And unfortunately, that's where it stops.

Nothing about the FBI's techniques to persuade people. Not a word about techniques when there is a romantic interest in the target (the book specifically mentions that it steers clear of this topic). Nothing about closing deals, and very little in regards to general persuasion.

I am certainly going to give this book to an introverted friend of mine because this book is quite thorough and he has zero social skills.

My advice is to consider what your trying to learn before you buy this book, because beyond the basics, this book doesn't offer very much considering how the author boasts about being in charge of the "Federal Bureau of Investigation's elite counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program".

If you are looking for a book that will teach you how to further your agenda within a conversation, I highly recommend "Influence" by Dr. Robert B. Cialdini.

Hope this helps you if you know what your really looking for.

2.0 von 5 Sternen It's not all about me 27. September 2012
Von Bob - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I was very disappointed. I purchased the book based on the reviews, but apparently they were reading a different book. Both the writing and the editing need work and the book would benefit from serious proofreading. I found the writing style rambling often digressing in the middle of a story to tell another story. It read more like a stream of consciousness. I was serious thinking of trashing it be the end of the introduction, but I hoped the techniques would be worth the read. In-spite of the faults, I read the book for the techniques, which were poorly described and very basic. The book reminded me of the ones professional speakers write so they can say they have written a book. In short, if I had it to do over, I would keep my money.
