Kurzbeschreibung

Jez is on a mission of mercy: to replace a tragically deceased comic book for his injured best mate, Tel. Venturing into the Hidden Asteroid bookstore in London—the temple of geekdom itself—Jez is bowled over by the guy behind the counter.

Rhys is the poster boy for hot geeks: tall, gorgeous, and totally cool. Jez is desperate to impress him, so he bluffs his way through comic book jargon . . . and then dashes back to the hospital to beg Tel to teach him how to speak Geek.

Tel’s happy to oblige, and Jez is over the moon when Rhys asks him out. He’s even more thrilled when they discover a shared love of rugby, something he won’t have to fake for Rhys. The question is, how long can Jez keep up the deception, and what will happen when Rhys realizes he’s going out with a Fake Geek Guy?

4.0 von 5 Sternen Ein Buch über Geeks.... ohne Geeks? ;-) 19. Juni 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf

3.0 von 5 Sternen Loved it... just wanted more ;) 10. Februar 2014

This was so close to a 4 rating... just couldn't quite get past that 3 1/2.

I received It's All Geek to Me in exchange for a fair and honest review.

It’s All Geek to Me was just plain cute. I know. That’s usually not the description that you expect from a M/M Romance, but that’s what this one was. The characters were cute, the premise was cute and the inner dialogue that Jez has with himself is not just cute but adorable.

Cute as it was and with all of it’s ‘Laugh Out Loud’ moments, it was way too short. It’s not that it didn’t come to a satisfactory end or that things were rushed, it’s more that now that I’ve been introduced to Jez, Rhys and even Tel, I want to get to know them better. I loved these guys and even though the story was a bit predictable, it was still a fun, quick read.

4.0 von 5 Sternen A sweet, funny story 10. Februar 2014
Von Amazon Customer - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Jez was only planning to get in and out of the comic book store to get his friend the comic book he lost. The last thing Jez expected was to find a handsome young man behind the counter. Especially one that flustered him by only sending a smile his way. He knows nothing about comic books or the 'geek' way, but he can't let the opportunity pass him by. He pretends to be into the scene to get Rhys' affections and later quizzes his friend about everything 'geek'.

With what little he could get his friend to share, he heads to the store once again in the hopes of landing himself a date with Rhys.

What follows is a sweet, funny story about two men discovering that appearances are not always what they seem but that once a connection has been established everything else can be worked out.

I loved this story. Not only because of the humor JL Merrow infused into the story but also because the characters felt so real. I loved Jez. Yes, he lied and pretended to be someone he wasn't but underneath it all he was a sweet, caring man who only wanted to connect to someone. Likewise, Rhys was adorable too. He was charming and treated Jez well, which Jez had lacked in his previous relationship.

I loved watching how flustered Jez became every time he was in Rhys' presence and how he went out of his way to impress him. But it was also nice to see him let go of some of his inhibitions too.

I think Jez and Rhys complemented each other. Not only did their share great chemistry, they also related to each other well. I enjoyed their camaraderie and playful banter and would love to see more of them in the future. *hint, hint*

All in all, a wonderful short story that left me with a smile on my face and wanting more.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Good fun 20. März 2014

"It's All Geek to Me" by J.L. Merrow is an entertaining gay romance story in the unlikely setting of comic book stores. A chance encounter brings Jez to one of those places. Thanks to his crush on the store clerk he tries to become a 'geek'.
As far as the story goes, it flows easy and is maybe predictable but very enjoyable. The characters are credible with their London slang and the Soho gay body image culture.
The writing is quirky, the dialogue is life-like and the sex is explicit but not overly so.
There are some great scenes, some surprises and some good writing in this story. A writer to watch.
I reviewed this book for netgalley.

4.0 von 5 Sternen Hilarious Results When a Guy Pretends Something He's Not in this RomCom 13. Februar 2014
Von Sophia Rose - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

Okay, I have to stop laughing long enough to write up this review. This book was freaking hilarious from beginning to ending. I anticipated that it would have a light tone to it since a guy is trying to pass himself off as a geek to impress another guy working at a comic book shop, but garsh, no... this was the outer limits and should come with a warning label. Do not read this in public if you have any reason to be embarrassed by your laugh, expression when you laugh or anything related when your funnybone is tickled.

Okay, beyond the comedy part, it was also a sweet heartwarming story of a guy who didn't see himself the way others did and he definitely didn't believe them when they told him that he was fine as himself. The ex-boyfriend never shows up in the story, but I'm with Rhys and Tel about giving him a well-deserved pounding in a back alley.

Jez is this crazy spazz of a guy who goes to a comic book shop to buy a replacement for a comic book that was lost when his best mate, Tel, got in a car accident and ended up in hospital. Tel is the big geek so Jez just wants to get the poor guy a copy of his favorite comic. Well that is until he swallowed his tongue over Rhys the guy working the counter. Then he's lucky to remember his own name let alone why he's there.

Jez had a bad break up where the guy managed to stomp all over Jez's self-esteem. He thinks he is fat and unworthy of anyone's attention so he's under the impression that he has to be something he's not to impress Rhys who's hot and seems into all the cool geekery. Jez begs Tel to give him Geek lessons to help him gain Rhys' interest.

A first date is a success, but that just leaves Jez even more worked up now that he's even more embroiled in his lies. Tel advises him to come clean because Rhys needs to see the real Jez and Tel is convinced that Rhys will accept the real Jez.

So I've made it clear that this was a fun, heartwarming read and it had a solid plot line to go with it. It was fairly short, but it was well developed for all that. Jez is the narrator and being inside his head made me almost dizzy the way his mind worked, but that's just it, I felt like I was truly inside Jez's head which impressed me.

I found the characters around Jez all very engaging. His horny friend Tel who between geek lessons with Jez had managed to get up a flirt with his nurse. Rhys was fun in an ordinary good guy way even though he had a secret. And he was so into Jez. Whew boy was he. They didn't come up for air once they got together. Rhy's sister Angie was a hoot. Well not her per se, but the way Jez was terrified of her was amusing.

It ended in a good place though I wish I could have spent more time getting to know Rhys in particular and both Rhys and Jez together after the big reveal and things were more on an even keel. Okay, I admit it. I just liked hanging out with them and wanted to do a few more dates and stuff.

Word of warning this will be all geek to anyone not very familiar with British casual speech and slang. I'm American and I had no trouble, but then again I'm a bit of an Anglophile and hung up on books written by British authors, BBC and British-made films so take that with a grain of salt.

It's not deep and it was definitely a fun and light yet scorchy short read. Those who enjoy m/m Contemporary Romantic Comedy should try it. It's my second book by the author and I'm becoming a fan.

My thanks to Riptide Publishing and Net Galley for the opportunity to read this one in exchange for an honest review.

It is short. I would have enjoyed it more if there had been more of it, but it was really cute and different.
