Kurzbeschreibung

The rules are clear—until they’re broken. Lauren Layne puts a modern spin on Pygmalion, also the inspiration for Pretty Woman, and gives the classic love story its edgiest twist yet.

“Who knew that pretending you’re not falling for someone would be so much more difficult than pretending that you are?”

Stephanie Kendrick gave up her whole summer to ace her NYU film school screenwriting course, so she’s pissed to be stuck with a preppy, spoiled frat boy as her writing partner. Then again, with her piercings, black-rimmed eyes, and Goth wardrobe, Stephanie isn’t exactly Ethan Price’s type, either. He’s probably got his eye on some leggy blonde with a trust fund . . . or does he?

As the summer scene kicks off in the Hamptons, Ethan is desperate to make his snobbish mother forget the pedigreed girl who broke his heart. While Stephanie’s a stretch as a decoy, the right makeover and a pastel cardigan just might do the trick. She may not love the idea of playing Ethan’s brainless Barbie girlfriend, but the free rent and luxurious digs make a tempting offer. So does the promise of a ready-made screenplay idea inspired by their charade.

But when Stephanie steps into Ethan’s privileged world, the “acting” begins to feel all too real. The kissing and touching that were intended to fool the Hamptons crowd wind up manipulating them. And Stephanie faces a question she’s too afraid to ask: Is Ethan falling for the real her or for the dolled-up princess he wants to see?

Super geschrieben. Angehnem flÃßig zu lesen. Die Story leicht vorhersehbar, entwikelt aber richtig Tiefe so das das eigene Herz schon mal mitfiebert. Ich konnte es kaum aus der Hand legen.

Stephanie's and Ethan's motivations might not be completely convincing, but their romance still kept me reading. I liked the Pygmalion reference. Entertaining!

MY THOUGHTS

Stephanie is a film student in NYC - ever since she left her hometown, and all that happened there, she hides behind this tough Goth-persona. She wears black clothes, black boots, black nail polish.
On her way to a summer screenwriting class she runs into Ethan - well, runs into - as in crashes into - Ethan. A pretty hot preppy-looking student. They start talking and insulting each other with the obvious prejudices about their looks.

As it turns out they both were headed to the same class. And, they end up as partners for the summer screenwriting project.
Ethan only took this class because he didn't want to intern at his Dad's firm again this summer - because he doesn't want to run into people who would remind him of a few horrible events he witnessed these last weeks. Like his girlfriend and his best friend having sex - with each other!

Stephanie is kind of homeless for the summer - she needs a place to stay.

She's moving in with Ethan, because they start their own little project within the school project. They decide to write their own version of the Pygmalion theme. The Pretty Woman - She's All That kind of thing where a guy 'creates' a woman he then falls in love with.

Ethan wants Stephanie to pose as his girlfriend. After he makes her get a make-over, of course. No goth on Park Avenue!
He wants his mom to stop wanting to get him back together with his ex Olivia. And he thinks Stephanie is the perfect choice, because he and she SO don't fit together. There's no danger of them falling in love for real.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Fun, Light, and Sweet 28. Oktober 2013

Sweet, light, and tons of fun, Isn't She Lovely was a brilliant New Adult read! The romance was sweet, the story was tons of fun, and I completely adored this book.

Stephanie was a great heroine. She was likable and easy to relate to. She's held on to her resentment of her father's marriage to her step-mother just 6 months after her mother's death, and she's used that resentment to push away the rest of the world. But, she went through a lot of growth in this book. She moved past her grudge and realized who she really wanted to be, and settled into a happy medium. Though I occasionally wanted to shake some sense into her for almost letting a great guy go, I thought she was awesome. She was tough, sarcastic, witty, and tons of fun. I really liked her.

Ethan was also amazing. He's a total sweetheart. He comes off as arrogant at first, but it doesn't take long to see how great he is beneath all that ego. Like, Stephanie, I wanted to shake some sense into him a few times. He also got perilously close to losing a great girl. And,what he does to get her back was hilarious, sweet, and oddly fitting for their relationship. I adored him. I thought he was wonderful.

The romance was lovely. Their relationship built slowly and it was so much fun to see (or read about, whatever) two people who are so different fall for each other. I thought it was really funny how their relationship in the beginning was trading stereotype insults between a Goth and a prep. Then, it built into more. It was really sweet to see. And, the chemistry between then was hot. When they got together, the sparks were flying. I thought they were a great, if unusual, couple.

The plot was fast paced. I was hooked the entire way through. I really enjoyed the story. It was so much fun to read. And, there were serious moments as the characters grew beyond the stereotypes. I loved the story and the ending was perfect.

Isn't She Lovely was a brilliant New Adult romance. I loved this book! It was so much to read and I enjoyed every bit of it. Lovers of New Adult romance, this is a book you have to read.

Cute storyline. I'm a romantic sucker for a good Pygmalion storyline at certain times, which was why I purchased this book. It ended up falling on the disappointing side for me as. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't so poorly written and I bought the book with a clear understanding of the straight forward and typical storyline however, the romance and swooniness I was hoping to get just wasn't there for me. There was something I felt missing with the development of the H & h's relationship. The best way to sum up this book would be: Was it the Pretty Woman type Pygmalion story I was expecting to be able to re-read/watch over and over? No. It was more like watching a cheaper, B-grade version of Lindsey Lohan and that dude from Twilight try to create something similar but just not getting there.

This book was great. I really enjoyed the banter between the H and H. This was the first book of Layne's that I have read and I am a fan. She does a great job getting the reader into the story. I literally experienced every emotion in this book. There were lots of laughs, a few tears and at times I even got angry. But that is what makes this story so good.
Stephanie was a great heroine. I found her to be very real. She was a girl whose world was totally turned upside down and she changed with it. I love that Ethan helped her find herself. Ethan was great. Even though he was arrogant at times, I really enjoyed his sensitive moments.
The tie in with the screenplay was unique and enjoyable.
What I loved the most is the resolution at the end of the story. I am so thrilled that there was no cliffhanger ending and glad they got their HEA. I am looking to forward to reading more from Lauren Layne

4.0 von 5 Sternen modern day twist on Pygmalion 4. November 2013

REVIEW GIVEN BY MICHELLE AT ALL ROMANCE REVIEWS. FOR FULL REVIEW WITH GIFS GO HERE: [...]

This book is 100% romance. If you want a book full of steamy love scenes you are not going to get a lot of that here. But if you miss out on reading this book- you really are doing yourself a disservice because I loved it.

It's a modern day twist on Pygmalion and it's full of references to Pretty Woman so what's not to love??

Stephanie and Ethan could not be more different on the outside. But what lies beneath the surface is actually not all that different. Stephanie is a little goth that has shut down to most people in her life because of her past and issues with her family. Ethan lives a rich life and seems to have it all. But he's also dealing with cheating exes, best friends that are sort of failing in that role and a secret that he's hiding from his father that is tearing him apart.

When Ethan and Stephanie get thrown together for a film project to write a script for a movie. Ethan has a bright idea to make life imitate art and together they decide that their movie can be based on a real life project of Stephanie pretending to be his girlfriend so that he can get his mother off of his back and show his ex that he's moved on. And of course you are sitting there knowing this will nevre work- but then it works and you're like:
<img alt="" src="[...] >

Of course- the kisses between them start to blur the lines between acting and reality and that's when things get awesome,

Both Ethan and Stephanie are wonderfully written characters. You kind of fall in love with both of them or at least I did. To me, the banter between the two is hilarious. They are witty and have the perfect touch of sarcasm and sexual tension between them.
I was just like:
<img alt="" src="[...] >

One thing I love is that while they spend some time fighting their feelings, it doesn't go on forever and so when they stop fighting the truth it's awesome.

I thought the ending was perfection because I love when a man has to grovel and I love when a strong woman has to let the walls down a bit so basically this ending was amazing.

There were a few editing issues but that might be attributed to the ARC copy and hopefully will not be in the final copy. And they weren't distracting, I just noticed them.

If you are looking for a true romance novel with just a perfect touch of steam, two likeable characters and a bit of humor, this book is for you!

Received ARC from netgalley ....,

The story was well written and kept my attention throughout the book. The plot was good but predictable. The characters were likable. I enjoyed the dialogue between Ethan and Stephanie. It made me laugh out loud at times. There was not a lot of angst.
This was a quick, easy read and quite enjoyable .
