From Publishers Weekly

The clan battles of 16th-century Scotland form the backdrop for this slow-moving romance from Fletcher (Irish Hope, etc.), which starts with a bang but unfolds with formulaic leisure. Moira Maclean, daughter of a clan leader, has grown up in a convent, virtually forgotten by her father until, at 29, she's considered too old for childbearing. Suddenly a battle-weary warrior named Ian Cameron appears with his men, shattering the nighttime peace of the convent. He brings a token from her father, who he claims insisted on his deathbed that Moira marry Ian to prevent a war. Alarmed but obedient, she goes through with the hurried ceremony and its consummation, then is shocked when more men arrive her father, very much alive, and her brothers. Furious that she has wed their enemy, they leave in disgust. Ian departs as well, but returns a few months later to claim his wife. While on their journey to join his clan, she finds that their marriage really did prevent a war but, for reasons unknown, someone is now threatening her life. With its feisty heroine, sensitive hero and numerous sex scenes, this book should satisfy Fletcher's fans, but others may be disturbed by her hero and heroine's anachronistic behavior (Ian's assurances to Moira that he'll always "be there" for her and her relentlessly defiant attitude toward him).

Moira Maclean is summoned by Mother Abbess in the dead of night. Frightened and worried and with no time to dress, she rushes in her night dress and bare feet to discover disturbing news. Her father and brothers have been killed by a rival clan and it is her father’s dying wish that she wed the Highlander warrior he sent to keep her safe.

The stranger appears to have come directly from the battlefield and Moira has little choice but to obey her father’s dying wish. A hasty ceremony and equally hasty consummation, and it’s over, though Moira soon finds that… it has only just begun.

Her father arrives and she learns that the warrior she wed, Ian of the clan Cameron, is her father’s mortal enemy. A bargain is struck between the two men and she is once again left at the convent to live out her days.

But danger lurks in the shadows and Moira carries a secret she’s been warned not to share and with her life in peril Ian returns to take his wife home. It doesn’t take long for Ian to realize that Moira has the power to heal his broken heart and that he has the power to wake her dormant passion and love has the power to bring the unlikely pair together.

5.0 von 5 Sternen A True Romance 14. August 2013
Von Mary R. - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf
I bought this book when it was first published in 2003 and now own it on my Kindle. I like having books available on my Kindle for when I travel or when waiting for an appointment, it's not bulky.

Ms. Fletcher never disappoints me. She always has a plot, not just the romance. I also like the fact that all her heroines aren't perfect. They're not all beautiful, some are weak, some strong, one may have a disability or fighting fears or be older and brilliant. But the one fact I enjoy most in her stories is that the hero is always strong, brave and madly in love with the heroine. Some readers may not find this their cup of tea, but it's my cup of tea along with a plate of cookies and a box of chocolates (food to survive) because I can't put the darn book down. The heroes may be strong and demanding but there is a kindness in them that melts your heart.

Other reviewers have mentioned what the story is about so I would just say buy it and form your own opinion and if you're a true romance reader like I am, you will not be disappointed. I must add if you love the heroes in the romance stories you will want to buy the sequel to this book, which is LOVE ME FOREVER. It's Ian's sister, Brianna's story, but the hero, Royce, is to sigh for. You may need two cups of tea and a very large box of chocolate for that book. Happy reading!

5.0 von 5 Sternen A love that survives deception 3. März 2002
Von DiAnn Fields - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Setting - Scotland 1513. Moira Maclean has spent 17 years in a convent her father took her to at the young age of 12 years old. Moira has adjusted well to convent life and has learned to be strong and independence. She, however, does not know about love.
Ian Cameron, laird of the clan Cameron of Glencoe, is a warrior and proud leader of his people. Moira's father battles Ian and his clan and sees Ian as his mortal enemy.
Ian goes to the convent and tells Moira that her father has died - she must marry him to end further fighting between the clans. They are immediately wed and their marriage is consummated quickly(not with much skill or pleasure for either). Immediately after, Moira's father arrives at the convent very alive and furious that Moira has wed his most hated enemy.
Moira's father tells Ian to leave his daughter at the convent - she is too old and barren to satisfy her young husband's needs(Ian is 25 years old). Ian reluctantly agrees and leaves, but two months later comes back for Moira and she has a surprise for him....she is pregnant!
With a troubled beginning to their marriage, Ian and Moira struggle to make their marriage work. There are several obstacles; someone is trying to kill Moira, Ian wants a real marriage while the naive Moira doesn't understand all that he wants, and problems with facing her father again.
Ian and Moira's relationship is wonderful in this story. Moira is a multi-layered heroine who is strong and has knowledge about numbers, agriculture, etc. that help manage their lives. She is a vital part of the success of their relationship and proves that intelligence is just as exciting as outer beauty. Ian, though feeling guilty of how their marriage started, cares and loves Moira as his wife and his partner. The exchanges between Ian and Moira are fun to read and challenging to both parties. There are interesting secondary characters, Anne and Blair, and Ian's sister Brianna which compliment the entire book.
If you have read Donna Fletcher's Irish Eyes books - The Irish Devil and Irish Hope, you will love this book! Don't miss it!

This is the first book by Donna Fletcher that I've read but I will definitely read more. She's got quite a talent. I enjoyed the book from the beginning to the end. Ian's deceit and Moira's trust....lovely.

5.0 von 5 Sternen An awe-inspiring love story 22. April 2002
Von Eirenne - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
I have read several of Donna Fletcher's novels and have never found them lacking in the least. Isle of Lies does not disappoint, in fact it ranks as my favorite of all time. I fell in love with Moira and Ian from the start. I truly enjoyed watching their love for one another grow. Ian's concern over his wife's condition was touching. Moira was strong willed and determined, the way a heroine should be. I did want the story to end as I could have continued to read more about Moira and Ian. I anxiously await Brianna's story which will be out sometime in early 2003. Keep up the good work Donna. I am captivated by stories set in Ireland and Scotland - I do hope you continue to write more.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Left me wanting 9. April 2013
Von Cat - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
I will admit I don't normally read romances. The last one I read was Pride and Prejudice. I really didn't enjoy this book as much as I wanted to. The story was interesting but was hardly fleshed out. It read more like an outline to a potentially good story. If you took out the places where she was tingling with desire, the book would have been about 1/3 shorter. It also bugged me that the emphasis was always on sex. He wanting to "build her trust so he could show her the pleasures of intimacy". Substitute sex for intimacy and you have the gist of the story. Of course they were talking about it every other page and when they finally started doing it, apparently it was always amazing. It just felt like the only reason they really wanted to be together was for the always amazing sex. I also had a hard time with her fainting every 10 pages or so and it being dismissed to her being old (29) and pregnant. Now I had 4 kids after turning 29 and if I had fainted as often as she did, I would have spent even more time at the doctors. No one even brought in a healing person. I'm sure they had someone like that in the old days. Even a midwife would have been better than "well she old (29 is old, I must be ancient), old people do that." Then there's the big mystery of who's to gain if she is killed. Well, the main characters are all incredibly stupid I figured it out 1/2 way through the book when then finally introduced the last of the main characters.

I did appreciated that the sex scenes weren't graphic.I know what sex is and don't need it spelled out for me. But they were numerous at the expense of plot and character building. I think there should be more romance in a romance novel. Maybe there needs to be a different category. Romance and Sex novels. Romance can be the traditional stuff like Jane Eyre, Sense and Sensibility or stuff by Anita Stansfield. Sex novels can be the ones that were like the book. It could even be called Erotic stories and rated with stars by how much sex is actually in one and how graphic it is. But I digress.

All in all, the story had potential. Maybe I'm just too old fashioned and want meat to my stories. But even my Star Trek novels have more interesting characters and plot points then this book did. So if anyone could recommend some actually interesting real romance novels, I would appreciate it.

I gave it 3 stars because what plot was there was interesting.
