Kurzbeschreibung

Meet attorney Sasha McCandless in Irreparable Harm, the fast-paced, whip-smart legal thriller by USA TODAY Bestselling Author Melissa F. Miller.

After eight long years, Sasha is about to make partner at a prestigious law firm. All she has to do is keep her head down and her billable hours up.

When a plane operated by her client slams into the side of a mountain, killing everyone aboard, Sasha gears up to defend the inevitable civil lawsuits. She soon realizes the crash was no accident: a developer has created an application that can control a commercial plane's onboard computer from a smartphone.

Sasha joins forces with a federal air marshal, and they race to prevent another airline disaster. But when people close to the matter start turning up dead, Sasha must rely on both her legal skills and her Krav Maga training to stop the madman before he kills her.

Mehr über den Autor

USA TODAY Bestselling Author Melissa F. Miller was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Although life and love led her to Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and, ultimately, South Central Pennsylvania, she secretly still considers Pittsburgh home.

In college, she majored in English literature with concentrations in creative writing poetry and medieval literature and was STUNNED, upon graduation, to learn that there's not exactly a job market for such a degree. After working as an editor for several years, Melissa returned to school to earn a law degree. She was that annoying girl who loved class and always raised her hand. She's worked for major international law firms, clerked for a federal judge, and ultimately started a two-person law firm with her lawyer husband.

Powered by coffee, she writes her legal thrillers while pretending not to hear her three young children wreaking havoc. She has a very lazy dog and three hyperactive gerbils.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Kommt beispielsweise nicht an Grisham ran 20. November 2014
Von Grauwolf VINE-PRODUKTTESTER
Format:Kindle Edition|Verifizierter Kauf

Juli 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Irreparable Harm is one of those books you just don't want to end.

The first book in the Sasha McCandless series is superbly written and introduces the kick-ass lawyer who has become one of my favourite characters.

The story starts off with the unfortunate crash of a passenger plane, but the twists and turns which follow with have you turning the pages eagerly to see where this great mystery leads.

A terrific legal thriller, written by someone with first hand knowledge of the legal system that rivals any thriller penned by John Grisham.

Looking forward to starting book two in the series Inadvertent Disclosure (Sasha McCandless Legal Thriller No. 2)

3.0 von 5 Sternen Kept my interest when there was no football on the tube 3. Januar 2012

A good crime yarn with some courtroom drama thrown in. Sasha, the main character is engaging and you're cheering for her throughout the book as there are several characters that doubt her or, worse yet, trying to physically hurt her. I would have liked to have seen more courtroom scenes and less "Kung Fu" or whatever martial art Sasha practiced but the author seemed to focus more on the lawyer's skill in the later.

I left off a couple of stars for two reasons. Unrealistic law enforcement involvement-- Sasha's partner in this investigation is a lone TSA special agent who just dropped in? Huh? At the hint of any criminal activity in a major aircraft accident, the FBI would be all over it or should at least have been called in.

The other 'just too far out' premise is the aircraft autopilot mod that caused the crash. I have the luxury of being a retired airline pilot..so I have some knowledge of their operations. There is just no way this modification could have sneaked by the FAA, airline inspectors, mechanics and/or pilots. The paperwork involved to mod a certified passenger aircraft is 10 feet tall. To covertly do this would involve a conspiracy of dozens of people. Of course this is a very parochial criticism.

Even with that negative, I'll probably give her next book a try.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Almost There 20. Januar 2012
Von Savannah - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

I enjoyed this book despite its shortcomings. The protagonist Sasha has the beginnings of an interesting character, the other characters however were shallow depictions I never believed or understood. Motivations were hazy at best, and the opportunities to examine their relationships never really explored. Vivienne's initial introduction to us offered so much potential but in the end I wondered why the author bothered - was she the villian or was Jerry?, what happened to Jerry? Throughout most of the book we are encouraged to believe him a psychopath, yet an unbelievable romantic relationship painted him in a very different light, I waited for the twist that never came. The protagonist's decision to fall into a rather unappealing and ghost like character's arms never rang true. Romance and romantic motivations are not this authors talent she should leave the schmaltz to someone else.
Yet despite this book's many faults, the author's writing style is entertaining and easy and will no doubt improve with practice.

Irreparable Harm by Melissa F. Miller is a fast paced riveting
page-turner! I couldn't put it down and it consumed my entire weekend until I finished the very last page! The storyline is believable and full of suspense! I fell in love with the characters and am hoping she brings them back in another story. Melissa F. Miller has incredible talent as a writer and her knowledge of the legal system is very thorough. I am really looking forward to her next book.

3.0 von 5 Sternen Improbable but Entertaining Legal Thriller 10. Februar 2012
Von Ms Winston - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com

"Irreparable Harm" is the first in a series featuring Sasha McCandless, lawyer and martial arts whiz. Set in present-day Pittsburgh, the story opens on a high level of excitement as a passenger plane slams into a mountain side in Virginia, killing all aboard. It is obvious from the beginning that the plane was deliberately crashed and that it was done remotely through electronics. Sasha is a member of the law firm that counts the airline as one of its clients. Ultlimately, due to the untimely death of a senior member of the firm, she is put in charge of the investigation. The details about the method and means of the cause of the crash are improbable but make for good theatre.

Sasha sometimes borders on cliche -- the harddriving 30-something lawyer with no time for a personal life is almost a stock character in this type of book. The author makes Sasha a coffee-loving vegan who also takes part in some obscure martial arts training, the latter saving her life more than once. However, the reader is "treated" in detail to practically every martial arts move, which, along with a lesson in knot tying, coupled with how Sasha decides what to wear to the office, makes for some tedious reading that doesn't move the action forward and, frankly, looks like padding. The bad guys are also pretty much cliche characters -- we know they are bad because they have explosive tempers and scream and shout a lot. A black judge appointed by "the current president" is portrayed as biased and petty.

Even though some of the characters are problematic, once you toss out the padding and the cliches the book does hold your interest. The author seems to have a good grasp of the inner workings of law firms and how the court system works. The courtroom scenes are highly interesting and detailed. The author's decision to make Air Marshall Leo Connelly a lone wolf agent seems to have been done for dramatic effect, as she probably knows that this does not often happen in real life. Leo is half-Vietnamese, which makes him stand out, but I wonder, realistically, how many half-Vietnamese children were the offspring of Army nurses and young Vietnamese farmers. Again, the author seems to be stretching things to make her characters unique. A twist at the end makes for an exciting conclusion and, while I certainly have some issues with this book, I will read the next installment in the series if the opportunity arises.

A note on the Kindle edition: I appreciate getting the cover of the book and not just the title page. There were some typographical errors but not enough to make the book difficult to read.

What a riveting page turning read. I loved Sasha's character so is believable. This mystery thriller is one of the best books I have read for 2011. Melissa knows the legal system extremely well and it shows through out the book. The good and the bad people were underestimating Sasha at every turn. It was nice to see for a change.
I also like the technology side of it. The old saying, "There is an app for that" is so true. You never know what is going to happen next.
All the turns and twists and all the characters are great. This book is definitely a book to read.
