4.0 von 5 Sternen A Decent Intro for a Beginner in Document Capture 9. November 2012
Von J. Schneider - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
If you are new not only to Ephesoft but also the general problem of Document Capture, and if you're interested in putting in place a relatively simple capture process, then this will be an excellent resource for initial creation of your first test workflows. The book covers the basic workflow of typical capture processes and discusses how to achieve these using Ephesoft. A few advanced topics such as security, plugins, and interaction with other applications are also discussed.

So that's all well and good...

However, if you are already using an established Capture product in an Enterprise setting, and you are looking at Ephesoft as a potential Open Source replacement, then this book will not likely achieve the level of detail you desire. (I will try to keep focus here on the book, not on Ephesoft, which you definitely should look into - maybe it won't replace your entire Enterprise operation, but likely it could handle a least a piece of it.)

Where is the book lacking detail:

Database integration: an enterprise grade capture solution will store data somewhere; not sure if that's built into Ephesoft or if storage would be done manually. This level of nuts and bolts is really necessary for any Capture administrator.

Metrics and Reporting: Performance Metrics: you are not looking at a document capture solution unless you're looking to reduce manual processing costs, and you can't be confident in your ROI without detailed reporting of not only counts, but also of operator performance. Granted given that this is a java app, you should be able to instrument it using a tool like dynaTrace and thereby gather all the detail you need. Even so you would need to store the data somewhere to maintain a history, so we need to know about database integration.

Metrics and Reporting: Accuracy Metrics: you will also want to be able measure how well Ephesoft is performing its core tasks of separation, classification, and extraction; the book does not provide much depth here. Most commercial Capture solutions are very expensive but also come with commercial OCRs that are probably much more accurate than the Open Source Tesseract OCRused by Ephesoft. Ideally it should be easy to gather metics to prove whether or not that's the case. The book does not cover these metrics either.

Customization possibilities: there are some relatively simple examples, but it's not possible to have too much info on this. To make Ephesoft work in the real world you should expect to do a good bit of customization... you could probably write a "cookbook" of several hundred pages just addressed to this.

Overall, I think it would be difficult to do justice to Document Capture with Ephesoft in under 500 pages, and this book comes in at around 180, and that includes the intro, index, etc). It's therefore just too high level. Definitely not a complete reference... not ideal good for seasoned Capture professionals. Nonetheless the info here is accurate and this is a good guide if you're just starting up with Ephesoft.
