Kurzbeschreibung

15. August 2012
"Geoff Miller has devised a virtually flawless program to assist anyone who aspires to become a winning major league player." -Roland Hemond, 2011 Baseball Hall of Fame Buck O'Neil Lifetime Achievement Award "A must read for athletes looking to gain a mental edge or simply better identify their own strengths." -Bryan Minniti, Assistant General Manager, Washington Nationals Mental skills coach Geoff Miller has spent years helping professional baseball players improve their mental toughness-both on and off the field. Now, he's making these invaluable lessons available to everyone who loves the game of baseball. From high school to the Major Leagues, all baseball players struggle with competition, pressure, and their own personal challenges. This book, through inspiring stories about professional baseball players in various stages of their careers, as well as hands-on tips and questionnaires, will help players evaluate and improve the mental skills that are necessary for that competitive edge. In Intangibles, you'll find stories, instruction, and practical applications that teach players and coaches how to put forth their best mental games-portrayed through the eyes of those who have experienced those learning moments firsthand in their quests to become Major Leaguers. From a local park's baseball diamond to dusty minor league dugout benches to the musty concrete tunnels under Major League stadiums, Intangibles meets players where they are, offering specific ways to improve performance and outlook. Whether you hope to be a big league player someday, or whether you simply want to play your best game, this book is essential for all athletes who want to learn how to overcome fear, build confidence, and develop a mental framework for success.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Intangibles 31. Oktober 2012
Von KWBaseball - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
I highly recommend this book to any baseball player, coach, as well as the casual fan, who is wondering how the best players in the game control and maximize their mental approach. I liked how Geoff used real stories about real professional players to create great teachable moments for the reader. Having experienced this first-hand as a player in Pirates organization, he is giving you the same exact information that he gave to us, including the Baseball IQ test found at the end of this book. You will be surprised at some of the big names from Major League Baseball who struggled with confidence and performing on a daily basis, and used Geoff to get them back on track!

4.0 von 5 Sternen A tangible book for many 8. September 2012
Von Brit Suttell - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
The book is written by a guy who has been the mental coach for several major league baseball teams. He is a life long lover of baseball and finds a way, with the help of an influential professor, to work his way into the game as a mental coach. Miller is very good at what he does. While his strategies are directed at high-level baseball players, or players who have dreams of a career in the sport, many of his lessons are easily tranferrable to life.

I really connected with the first half of the book and took many notes that I hope to use in my own career as a high coach for several different sports. Miller's writing was engaging and his anecdotes are perfect. He is able to bring many amorphous ideas and make them more tangible - so to speak.

The second half of the book I did not find as engaging, but that is not Miller's fault. His writing remained clear and engaging. The second half is just aimed at those directly involved or more involved with the game of baseball.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking at becoming a better leader, and especially those people involved in helping develop high-level ball players.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Winning the Mental Game of Life 16. August 2012
Von Candace Conradi - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
Miller has hit a home run with his book, "Intangibles!" It is an honest and compassionate take on the challenges athletes confront daily on the playing field. We forget as fans that they too face their own doubts and mental blocks. Geoff Miller helps us understand the importance of confronting and conquering mental doubt and translates an athlete's challenge into real-time life...the one that most of us live. Written with insight and wisdom, it is a must read...especially if you are a lover of America's favorite pasttime!

5.0 von 5 Sternen Intangibles - A Must Read 25. Januar 2014
Von Spencer Marentette - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch
I'm a NCAA Division I baseball player and reading Geoff Miller's Intangibles helped to take my game to the next level. Too often players neglect mental training, and Miller offers thought-provoking techniques and analogies to help you perform better on and off the field. College players often hear people preach visualizing success and simple breathing techniques to help improve performance under pressure; however, Miller's book offers so much more than simple cliched sports psychology methods. Intangibles proves to be a must read for any coach, athlete, or aspiring leader; it's sentiments transcend the game of baseball. A fantastic read.

5.0 von 5 Sternen Essential reading if you want to master the mental game! 2. Oktober 2013
Von Steve B. - Veröffentlicht auf Amazon.com
Format:Taschenbuch|Verifizierter Kauf
This book gave me a great understanding of several strategies to master the mental game of baseball and life in general - I never had much problem with playing the game for fun; however, watching young people today play the game and seeing the pressure that some kids experience at young ages made me think about strategies that could help players overcome "hangups." Read it for yourself and read it for your kids - you'll be glad you did!
