I first read "The Inspector's Daughter" with Rose McQuinn as the detective. Mentions of her famous father, Inspector Fare, intrigued me so I started researching his book. This is an excellent introduction to Inspector Faro and his stepson, Vince. For those who only want one story at a time, this may seem like a long haul but it is worth it. As a glimpse of Victorian life in Scotland it is superb. There are also sly bit of humour there too especially when dealing with Her Majesty, Queen Victoria. She is not by any means sugar coated.
The mystery in each story is well written and although by the third book you may guess the villian, the ending is still a surprise. For historical mystery lovers, this is a find.
